Description

This is an ongoing, as-needed post to create a pool of applicants. As department needs are identified, this pool will be reviewed periodically to obtain potential candidates.

Sustain high-quality teaching performance in Horticulture Technology, including appropriate course loads. This load may include seated, hybrid, and online classes with day and evening courses.

Examples of Duties

• Maintain mastery and currency in the credentialed field.
• Classes and Labs will operate according to all OSHA and EPA regulations.
• The instructor will establish and follow all course syllabus guidelines for the curriculum, which includes grading process, class content, on-line class instruction, class hours, attendance, and tasks taught.
• Perform record-keeping functions in the areas of course syllabi, attendance, and student performance in an accurate and timely manner.
• Ensure that no live work is accepted from the public. All work performed by students, other than labs, must have prior approval from the Dean for Applied Technology
• The instructor will be responsible for lab cleanliness during and after the session. All demonstrations must be in working order after each lab session.
• Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

Additionally

• Assist the lead instructor in Program planning and support of the Institutional Effectiveness plan.
• Measure student learning outcomes as outlined by the lead instructor.
• Maintain working relationships with all college employees while at the same time demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Education

Required: Associate degree in Horticultural Technology, or a closely related field;

Preferred: Bachelor's degree or greater

Experience

Industry experience in specified area of horticultural technology, or closely related areas. Previous college teaching experience preferred.

Skills and the Know-How

The faculty member will possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

Physical Demands

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
