Position Overview
Green River High School Theatre is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head Musical Director to lead the vocal and musical aspects of the musical production. The Head Musical Director will work closely with the Director, and production team to prepare students for a successful performance while fostering musical growth, confidence, teamwork, and a positive rehearsal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead music director for the musical production.
- Teach and rehearse all vocal music with cast members, including soloists, small ensembles, and the full cast.
- Collaborate with the Director, Choreographer, Orchestra Director, and production team to ensure a cohesive artistic vision.
- Prepare students in proper vocal technique, musicianship, diction, and performance practices.
- Conduct or supervise music rehearsals as outlined in the production schedule.
- Assist with casting by evaluating vocal abilities during auditions.
- Coordinate with the orchestra or accompanist to ensure musical readiness for rehearsals and performances.
- Attend production meetings, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment for all student performers.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and production staff regarding rehearsal expectations and performance preparation.
Qualifications
- Experience directing music for musical theatre productions, school performances, choir, or similar ensembles.
- Strong knowledge of vocal pedagogy, choral techniques, and musical theatre repertoire.
- Ability to teach students with a wide range of musical abilities and experience.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Dependable, professional, and able to meet rehearsal and production deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with middle school and high school students.
- Degree or coursework in music education, vocal performance, choral conducting, or a related field.
- Experience conducting live pit orchestras or working with accompanists.
- Background in musical theatre performance or direction.
Compensation
Compensation is provided in the form of a stipend, commensurate with experience and district guidelines.
