Position Description

Position OverviewThe Grinder Machinist supports Applied Medical’s manufacturing operations by producing and finishing high precision components used in medical device manufacturing. This role contributes directly to dimensional accuracy, surface integrity, and tooling performance by setting up and operating a variety of grinding equipment in a regulated manufacturing environment. The grinder machinist works closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure components meet exact specifications, quality system requirements, and delivery schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC grinders, CNC centerless grinders, manual grinders, jig grinders, and outside diameter grinders in accordance with engineering drawings and machining instructions.
  • Change tooling and grinding wheels while performing proper offsets and machine setups to maintain dimensional accuracy.
  • Interpret blueprint dimensions and tolerances to ensure components meet engineering and quality requirements.
  • Inspect ground components using precision measuring tools to verify conformance throughout the grinding process.
  • Follow machining instructions, quality system regulations, International Organization for Standardization standards, standard operating procedures, work rules, and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to resolve grinding issues and support continuous improvement.
  • Meet production schedules while maintaining Applied Medical’s high standards for quality, safety, and documentation.

  • Producing consistently accurate, high quality ground components that meet design intent and regulatory requirements.
  • Completing machine setups efficiently to support steady production flow and on time delivery.
  • Demonstrating strong attention to detail through precise inspection and documentation.
  • Maintaining effective communication with cross functional teams to address machining challenges proactively.
  • Supporting a safe, compliant, and collaborative manufacturing environment.

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • Demonstrated experience setting up and operating grinding equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Two or more years of work experience related to CNC grinding, manual grinding, or precision grinding operations.
  • Proven ability to interpret blueprint dimensions and apply tolerance requirements.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools for in process and final inspection.
  • Working knowledge of machining instructions, quality system regulations, International Organization for Standardization standards, standard operating procedures, work rules, and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English for effective communication and documentation.
  • Ability to lift fifty pounds as required for tooling and material handling.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-based manufacturing environment.

Preferred

The following skills and attributes are preferred:

  • Two to five or more years of experience grinding die blocks for stamping tooling or performing mold related grinding operations such as gates and shutoffs.
  • Experience using SolidWorks for basic design review or dimensional reference.
  • Background in medical device manufacturing or other regulated production environments.
