JOB DESCRIPTION
Grind parts to tight tolerance specifications in accordance with drawings, blueprints, and work instructions. Set up and operate cylindrical, eccentric grinding machines, and other grinding equipment to produce precision components. Perform routine inspection, maintenance and ensure product quality. Other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years of cylindrical grinding experience in a high-mix, low-volume production environment with regular tolerances of +/- 5 um on average.
Ability to create, download, and edit CNC programs for grinding equipment to meet engineering drawing requirements, tolerances, and specifications
Ability to measure and inspect completed parts for defects and verify conformance using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gages, depth micrometers, and other measuring tools
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, sample parts, and technical information to determine methods, sequences of operations, and optimal setups/work holding
Strong understanding of grinding various materials (low carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel, etc.), including appropriate speeds, feeds, and depths of cut
Ability to communicate effectively with supervision, engineering, and manufacturing engineering to coordinate schedules and work-in-process priorities
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment, sharing best practices and supporting continuous improvement
Responsible for first piece & in process inspection, accountable for scrap and rework
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with grinding wheel selection, dressing, and maintenance
Experience in setup and operation of Studer and/or Reform grinding equipment
Experience rigging and handling large or unbalanced parts, including eccentric shafts
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Manufacturing/shop environment
Steel-toed safety shoes and safety glasses required
Ability to regularly lift to 50 pounds
Work may be physically demanding and include walking, climbing, kneeling, crawling, squatting, pulling (e.g., torque tools), and standing for extended periods
