Under the direction of the Team Lead this position grinds and smooths surfaces, weld seams and weld spatter on units prior to finishing operations. This position differentiates from level II in that they do not assist supervision with tasks including training and enforcement of safety procedures. The incumbent may be in the process of being trained on these tasks, but does not perform them independently/regularly.

Examines and feels surface of parts for defects and missing welds
Selects grade of abrasive belt, wheel or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives and condition of metal and attaches to grinder.
Starts grinder and moves it over surface of parts to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material and burs.
Polishes ground areas with finer abrasive to produce smooth and unmarred surface.
Replace worn abrasive disks, wheels and belts.
Inspect all parts for missing or incomplete welds.
Regular and reliable attendance

Meet production expectations set by team lead/plant manager
Work quickly and accurately with minimal mistakes

Requirements:
Education:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
Minimum Experience:
External applicant: 3 months to 4 years related experience and/or training in grinding, sanding, or similar work in a manufacturing environment.
