Grinding Associate

Job Title: Grinding Associate
Location: Farmington, NY

Summary: NESCO Resource is seeking a skilled Grinding Associate to set up and operate grinding machines to ensure precision and quality in metal workpieces. This role requires a keen eye for detail, adherence to blueprint specifications, and the ability to perform routine maintenance. Shift: Monday - Friday, 7am-3:30pm

Pay: $18 per hour

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate grinding machines to grind external surfaces of metal workpieces to close tolerance specifications.
• Follow tooling instructions and grinding procedures to ensure first-piece inspections meet standards.
• Interpret blueprints, job orders, and verbal instructions for dimensions, tolerances, finishes, and required grinding wheels.
• Mount grinding and regulating wheels on spindles using hoists and wrenches.
• Dress grinding wheels to specifications using dressing devices.
• Adjust controls to set grinding speeds, feed rates, and spacing between wheel faces.
• Complete production paperwork and inspection procedures as required.
• Position and secure workpieces manually for grinding operations.
• Verify dimensions of finished workpieces using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, laser micrometers, and preset gauges.
• Change worn grinding wheels as needed.
• Grind non-metallic materials when required.
• Perform daily maintenance on grinding equipment and work area.
• Report any discrepancies, malfunctions, or safety concerns to supervisors.
• Maintain tools, gauges, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
• Adhere to company policies, safety regulations, and standard operating procedures.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as instructed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two to four years of related experience preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Strong mathematical skills, including measurements, rates, and ratios.
• Ability to troubleshoot and apply logical reasoning to solve problems.

Work Environment:

• Regular exposure to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and vibration.
• Frequent work near moving mechanical parts.
• Noise levels are loud; hearing protection is required.
• This position always requires two employees to be present in the work area for safety reasons.
