Description
Position Summary
The Grocery Associate is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the grocery department, ensuring shelves are fully stocked, products are fresh and accurately priced, and customers receive exceptional service. This role leads and supports grocery team members while maintaining the store's commitment to high-quality organic, natural, and sustainably sourced products.
Key Responsibilities
Department Operations
Oversee daily grocery department activities, including stocking, merchandising, inventory management, and product rotation.
Ensure shelves, displays, and promotional areas are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
Monitor product quality, freshness, and expiration dates according to company standards.
Maintain attractive product presentations that support sales goals and customer satisfaction.
Inventory Management
Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory control.
Track stock levels and identify opportunities to reduce shrink and waste.
Verify deliveries for accuracy and resolve discrepancies with vendors and management.
Submit and manage grocery product orders, ensuring appropriate inventory levels and product availability while supporting department sales and profitability goals.
Conduct regular inventory counts and assist with department audits.
Team Leadership
Lead, train, and support grocery department staff.
Delegate tasks and monitor completion to ensure operational standards are met.
Provide coaching and performance feedback to team members.
Open and close the store as scheduled, including disarming and setting security systems, unlocking and securing entrances, and conducting facility checks.
Perform cash handling functions, including opening tills, preparing deposits, balancing registers, and completing end-of-day reconciliation procedures.
Foster a positive, collaborative work environment.
Customer Service
Deliver knowledgeable and friendly customer service.
Assist customers with product questions, dietary needs, and product recommendations.
Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
Promote the benefits of organic, natural, and locally sourced products.
Compliance & Safety
Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable health regulations.
Maintain a clean and safe shopping environment for customers and staff.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous grocery, retail, natural foods, or organic market experience preferred.
Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
Knowledge of organic, natural, specialty, and health-focused grocery products is highly desirable.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
