Salary Range: $70,618 to $83,080

Summary

Under the supervision of Pathologists and Pathologists'' Assistants, the Grossing Technologist is responsible for gross examination of small and uncomplicated specimens, and the processing of tissue.

This position is locate at 2525 West Bellfort .

Job Duties

  • Assures appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling.
  • Maintains the integrity of the specimen and patient identification.
  • Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing,

according to policies and procedures.

  • Describes gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring that all lesions, markings and

sutures are mentioned.

  • Performs grossing moderate to high complex/complicated specimens under direct and indirect supervision, as applicable to training and experience.
  • Records measurements, weight, volume, and any abnormal findings as applicable.
  • Dissects surgical specimens and prepares tissues for histologic processing. (The level of supervision for each specimen type will be determined by the Laboratory Director and Medical Director).
  • Maintains compliance with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and other regulatory and accreditation requirement through adherence to established quality standards and procedures.

Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of grossing areas.

  • Assists with Frozen Sections as needed.
  • Collaborates with pathologists, histotechnologists, and laboratory staff.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree in a science related field (preferably biology or physiology) with at least 24-semester hours of

combined credits in biology and chemistry.

  • Pathology laboratory experience.
