We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of ground-up public construction projects in the Newark, NJ area, working closely with Project Managers and field teams. This individual will play a key role in project coordination, documentation, and execution, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with public sector requirements.

Our client is a well-established, mid-sized general contractor specializing in ground-up public and institutional construction projects throughout New Jersey. The firm has built a strong reputation for delivering complex projects for municipal, education, and government clients, leveraging modern construction technologies such as Procore to enhance efficiency, collaboration, and reporting.
Description
- Assist the Project Manager in overseeing all phases of ground-up public construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
- Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project logs using Procore
- Coordinate with subcontractors, consultants, and public agencies to ensure alignment with project schedules and requirements
- Support budgeting, cost tracking, and procurement processes to maintain financial control
- Help develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring milestones and deadlines are achieved
- Participate in project meetings, prepare meeting minutes, and track action items
- Ensure compliance with public sector regulations, safety standards, and contract documents
- Conduct site visits as needed to monitor progress and assist with issue resolution

Profile
- 2-5+ years of experience in construction, with a focus on ground-up projects (public sector experience strongly preferred)
- Hands-on experience supporting projects for municipal, educational, or government clients
- Proficiency in Procore is required; familiarity with Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar tools is a plus
- Strong understanding of construction processes including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project closeout
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with field and office teams in a fast-paced environment
