Position: Grounds and Fleet TechnicianStatus: Full time, permanentLocation: Various sites within the Ohio History Connection site systemCompensation: $21-23/hour plus full benefits package Summary:The Grounds and Fleet Technician is responsible for maintaining grounds across Central Ohio and supporting the Ohio History Connection's vehicle and equipment fleet.This position combines hands-on groundskeeping duties to ensure safe, functional, and visually appealing facilities with preventative fleet management and equipment maintenance. Essential Functions: Groundskeeping & Facilities MaintenancePerform general groundskeeping duties including mowing, trimming, edging, planting, pruning, and landscape maintenance Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in accordance with safety standardsMaintain walkways, parking lots, roads, and outdoor areas to ensure safety and accessibilityRemove snow, ice, debris, and waste from site grounds and public areas as neededFleet & Equipment ManagementMaintain and manage organization-wide vehicle and equipment fleet, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and cleaningPurchase parts, tools, supplies, and chemicals for fleet and maintenance operations Operational & Support DutiesSupport seasonal grounds maintenance and winter weather response at central sitesService and repair groundskeeping equipment (mowers, tractors, etc.) Coordinate with vendors for specialized services such as tree work, mulching, or snow removal Travel to and support statewide sites with maintenance and grounds needs Required Education & Experience:High school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of 3–4 years of experience in fleet maintenance, automotive repair, groundskeeping, or related fieldCombination of technical training and hands-on experience preferred Desired Skills & Experience: Comfortable communicating with staff and the public.Knowledge of automotive repair and preventive maintenance practicesExperience with commercial landscaping equipment operation and repairAbility to learn and use various office software suites to perform essential functions of positionKnowledge of proper operation and safety procedures for equipment necessary to perform essential functions such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and other commercial landscape and maintenance equipmentUnderstanding of safe handling and usage of materials necessary to perform essential functions of position including commercial-grade cleaning and sanitizing solutions, herbicides, and pesticidesValid Ohio Driver's License Required Competencies:Can locate and use resources to get things done, uses resources effectively and efficiently, and arranges information in a useful mannerAssumes accountability of role and responsibilities; anticipates the needs of othersAble to process information in a consistent manner, simultaneously displaying adaptability when necessaryAble to carry out duties assigned by supervisorAble to identify and resolve issues efficiently and effectively Physical Demands:Requires prolonged standing, walking, and bending.
