I. Purpose of Job
Maintains all grounds on park property. Executes the day-to-day plans for maintaining all park grounds.
Must be able to work holidays, nights and weekends. i.e. meetings, special events and tournaments.
II. Essential Job Duties
A. Maintaining park grounds
- Mows, string trims, and edges park grounds using commercial grade equipment.
- Uses commercial landscape blower to remove grass and debris from walking paths, parking lots, and sidewalks.
- Adheres to safety standards and operates equipment safely around the public.
- Performs all grounds maintenance of City's cemeteries.
- Assists with minor repairs to cemetery walls, fences, and markers.
- Assists with special projects such as mulching, rockwork, stormwater, etc.
B. Maintains and transports equipment
- Performs general inspection of all equipment including fluids, belts, and blades before using.
- Performs general maintenance of equipment including cleaning, greasing, changing fluids, changing filters, and blade sharpening.
- Cleans and maintains all equipment and work areas.
- Loads and unloads all equipment for transportation to worksites.
C. Dog Parks
- Performs all grounds maintenance for each dog park within the parks system.
- Responsibilities include mowing, , string trimming, edging and blowing of debris of each dog park(s).
- Responds to citizen requests.
- Assists with special projects such as mulching, rockwork, stormwater, etc.
D. Trails
- Performs of the mowing of the trails within the parks system.
- Responsibilities include blowing surfaces, edging and string trimming within easements of all trails.
- May assist with routine Urban Forestry maintenance to all trails including the mountain bike trail system along with installation and/or repairs of any amenities within the parks system.
- Coordinates upon request with general public and special interest groups with trail planning and mowing.
E. Training
- Internal - Forklift, Skid Steer, Chainsaw, Chipper, Stump Grinder
- Professional Training as it relates to this position.
III. Other Job Duties
Performs other job duties as assigned, including:
- May operate tractor and bush hog to maintain large fields.
- May operate chainsaw to trim or cut trees.
- Assists with preparing parks for special events.
- May operate topdresser, aerator, and drag to perform turf cultural practices.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities to assist other employees in the department as required.
IV. Primary Job Challenges
Primary job challenges of this position include being able to efficiently maintain a large amount of acreage in a timely manner.
V. Equipment Operated
- Operates and maintains commercial grade lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, tractors, bush hogs, edgers, aerator, utility vehicles, chippers, and chainsaws.
- Computer and computer software including virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams and other office equipment.
VI. Key Competencies Required
Has general knowledge of policies, procedures, and activities of the City, landscape and construction practices as they pertain to the performance of duties related to this position. Determine and decide upon procedures to be implemented in maintaining safety codes and standards. Knows how to determine and ensure the safety of work sites. Is skilled in the operation of a variety of equipment utilized in the performance of assigned duties. Is knowledgeable of the language and terminology used within the department.
- Language Skills: Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Mathematical Skills: Add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense understanding to carry out multi-step instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems by choosing from several known choices with frequent reliance on how problems were dealt with before.

VII. Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands: Performance of the essential duties of this job requires the incumbent to:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Regularly move around different worksites.
- Constantly operates equipment or machinery such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, edgers, aerator, utility vehicle, tractors, chippers, bush hogs, and chainsaws.
- Frequently positions self to maintain work area and items needed to complete daily tasks.
- Regularly communicates information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Occasionally ascends/descends equipment.
- Regularly moves/transports up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally moves/transports up to 50 pounds.

Performance of the essential duties of this job requires:
- Regular Work near moving mechanical parts
- Regular exposure to fumes or airborne particles
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions
- Regular exposure to vibration.
The work environment is loud (examples: metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment).
