Parks and Recreation/Cacapon Resort State Park Under the general supervision of the Ground Maintenance Supervisor, this full-performance position is responsible for the overall appearance, repair, and general care of the resort grounds and the 18-hole championship golf course at Cacapon Resort State Park. This role involves a wide range of groundskeeping duties, requiring some latitude to vary methods and procedures within established guidelines. The worker may also assign and supervise the work of other staff and perform routine maintenance tasks specific to high-level resort and golf course maintenance.

Essential Functions (may not Include all duties listed): Supervise and participate in all aspects of ground maintenance, including specialized mowing, trimming, cultivating plants, shrubs, and trees. This includes specialized mowing and cultural practices for golf course greens, tees, fairways, and roughs to maintain championship playability. Plant and care for grass, flowers, shrubs, and trees, ensuring optimal turf health, density, and playability on the golf course and aesthetically pleasing conditions across the resort property. Implement necessary preventive measures for insect and vermin control and against other damaging effects, with a focus on turfgrass diseases, pests, and integrated pest management (IPM) on the golf course. Make improvements and minor repairs to park infrastructure, such as walks, lanes, sheds, and benches, including painting. This includes maintaining golf course accessories such as ball washers, tee markers, flags, cups, and yardage markers. Perform preventive maintenance related to the grounds area, including daily inspection, operation, and minor repairs to the golf course irrigation system and associated pump station. Assist in the selection of necessary supplies and equipment, including specialized golf course machinery (e.g., reel mowers, aerators, top-dresses) and chemical applications (e.g., fertilizers, fungicides). Assign specific work details to other employees.

Knowledge of standard groundskeeping and basic horticulture practices, with specific expertise in turfgrass management for golf course conditions and high-traffic resort areas. Proficiency in the care of common flowers, trees, and shrubs, including methods of cultivating, pruning, spraying, trimming, and sodding. Expertise in maintaining cool-season turfgrass varieties, such as bent grass and bluegrass, to championship golf course standards. Familiarity with the materials, tools, and equipment used in grounds work, as well as ordinary plant diseases and pest control, including comprehensive knowledge of golf course irrigation systems, modern reel mowing equipment operation and maintenance, and safe chemical application procedures. Ability to perform maintenance and make ordinary repairs to machinery and equipment, including specialized golf course maintenance equipment. Ability to plan, lay out, supervise, and direct the work of other employees. Ability to make improvements and minor repairs to park features, including walks, lanes, parking lots, sheds, and benches.

Must have flexibility in work schedule; will be required to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Will be required to wear a park uniform. Must possess a valid drivers license. Performs related duties as required. Regular attendance is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Must be able to pass a written test at the eighth grade level.

Experience: Six months of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in groundskeeping work.

Special Requirement: Possession of a valid drivers license may be required.
