Grounds Maintenance & Facilities Assistant


Position Overview


We are seeking a dependable Grounds Maintenance & Facilities Assistant to help maintain the appearance, safety, and functionality of several commercial buildings located near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport's cargo district. This position combines outdoor grounds care with light facility maintenance duties and offers a high degree of independence throughout the workday.


The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining clean and attractive properties, and is comfortable handling basic repair projects, landscaping duties, and general upkeep tasks.


Key Responsibilities


+ Maintain the exterior grounds surrounding multiple commercial properties, ensuring a clean, professional, and safe environment.

+ Care for landscaped areas including lawns, shrubs, ornamental plants, and small trees through routine maintenance and seasonal upkeep.

+ Remove litter, debris, and other unwanted materials from parking lots, walkways, and surrounding outdoor spaces.

+ Complete minor building maintenance and handyman projects as assigned.

+ Perform exterior painting, touch-up work, and appearance-related repairs when needed.

+ Operate a company utility cart to transport equipment, tools, and maintenance supplies between nearby properties.

+ Review assigned task lists and maintenance schedules to prioritize daily activities.

+ Check in with site leadership at the beginning of each shift regarding work assignments and project updates.

+ Communicate maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or property issues to management promptly.

+ Support occasional indoor projects involving organization, cleaning, inventory management, or light shop-related tasks.

+ Use landscaping and maintenance equipment safely and responsibly.

+ Follow company safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.

+ Work independently while coordinating with local operations personnel as needed.


Required Qualifications


+ Minimum of one year of experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, property maintenance, or a related field.

+ At least one year of experience performing basic repair work, construction-related tasks, facility upkeep, or handyman duties.

+ Familiarity with common hand tools and equipment used for maintenance and repair projects.

+ Experience maintaining outdoor landscaping features such as grass, shrubs, and trees.

+ Ability to perform general cleanup duties, including sweeping, trash collection, and maintaining orderly work areas.

+ Basic painting experience and the ability to complete simple exterior touch-up projects.

+ Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

+ Ability to qualify for and obtain a SIDA badge

+ Comfortable working outdoors throughout the year in varying weather conditions.

+ Ability to regularly walk, stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs during the workday.


Preferred Qualifications


+ Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, or building services roles.

+ Experience operating utility vehicles, golf carts, or similar transportation equipment.

+ Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively manage daily priorities.

+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining attractive, well-kept properties.

+ Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.

+ Experience working around transportation, industrial, logistics, or airport-related facilities.

Work Setting


This position is primarily based outdoors at several neighboring commercial buildings located near the airport cargo area. While most duties involve grounds and exterior maintenance, occasional work is completed in office and shop environments.


Typical hours are Monday through Friday during daytime business hours, generally 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with some flexibility depending on operational needs. Employees should expect a physically active workday that includes walking between properties, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying tools or supplies, and working outdoors for extended periods. Company parking and maintenance equipment are provided.
