    WARTBURG COLLEGE

    Title of Position: Full-Time Groundskeeper & Landscaper

    Function of Position:

    Reports to the Lead Groundskeeper & Landscaper and is responsible for maintaining and improving the landscape by assisting with grounds to include, but not limited to, mowing, trimming, snow removal. Incumbent may work with students, team members, college employees, guests of the college and vendors, treating all with respect.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Perform routine grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, weed control, mulching, and trash removal.
    • Mow lawns and prune trees, shrubs, and other landscaping features.
    • Apply pesticides and treatments to maintain healthy turf and landscaping.
    • Assist in maintaining existing landscaping designs and ensuring plant health and survival.
    • Plant and care for flowers, shrubs, trees, and other decorative plants.
    • Plan, suggest, and help implement approved landscaping improvements.
    • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots; apply salt and sand as needed.
    • Maintain flowerbeds through watering, trimming, and weeding.
    • Clean and maintain campus features such as fountains and outdoor fixtures.
    • Inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers (check fluids, tires, lights, and seating) for use.
    • Maintain and service grounds equipment including tractors, mowers, and trimmers.
    • Collaborate with maintenance staff to complete work orders, assist with moves/setups, supervise student workers, and perform other related duties as assigned.

    Supervision:

    Employee is responsible for determining own work assignments referring to standard procedures, policies and general objectives for guidance. Employee independently devises new methods to meet conditions and confers with supervisor regarding unusual matters.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Basic oral, written and math skills
    • Minimum educational requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent
    • 2 years of experience as a crew member landscaping for residential or commercial properties

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with a variety of hand tools and maintenance equipment including clippers, chain saws, lawnmowers, snowblowers, tractors, blowers, edgers, rakes, and hedge trimmers
    • Experience with horticultural practices

    Physical Abilities:

    Ability to lift over 50 pounds and work with arms above shoulder height
