Job Summary
The Grounds Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining outdoor areas using handheld and backpack-powered equipment. This role focuses on vegetation control, brush clearing, leaf blowing, and storm debris cleanup to ensure grounds are safe, clean, and well-maintained. The position requires physical labor, operation of outdoor power equipment, and working in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate weed eaters/line trimmers to maintain grass edges, fence lines, ditches, and hard-to-reach areas • Cut and clear brush, overgrowth, and light vegetation in assigned areas • Use backpack leaf blowers to remove leaves, grass clippings, and debris from walkways, parking areas, and landscaped zones • Perform storm debris cleanup, including removal of fallen branches, limbs, and other debris • Collect, load, and dispose of yard waste and debris properly • Identify and report safety hazards or damaged areas • Perform routine inspection and basic maintenance of equipment • Follow all safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) • Assist with other grounds maintenance tasks as assigned
Required Skills & Abilities
Experience using weed eaters, backpack leaf blowers, and similar outdoor power equipment Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, wind, and wet conditions Ability to follow instructions and work independently Basic awareness of safety practices related to power equipment Ability to lift, carry, and move debris and equipment (typically up to 50 lbs)
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred (or equivalent work experience) Previous groundskeeping, landscaping, or outdoor maintenance experience preferred Valid driver's license (if required for the role) Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
