Position Overview
Winston-Salem State University is seeking energetic, knowledgeable, and passionate Group Exercise Instructors to join the Campus Recreation team. This position is responsible for planning and leading safe, engaging, and effective group fitness classes that encourage healthy lifestyles and support the overall well-being of the WSSU community.
The ideal candidates will create an inclusive and motivating environment for participants of all fitness levels while promoting proper exercise techniques, participant safety, and adherence to Campus Recreation policies and procedures. Hourly pay will be dependent on the type of classes taught and the certifications the candidate possesses.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
Plan and lead group fitness classes in assigned formats, such as Yoga, Cycling, HIIT, Strength Training, Zumba, Pilates, Boot Camp, or other specialty formats.
Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and modifications to accommodate varying fitness levels and abilities.
Maintain a positive, inclusive, and motivating atmosphere for all participants.
Monitor participant safety and exercise technique throughout classes.
Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes.
Maintain accurate attendance records and class participation reports as required.
Ensure fitness equipment is used properly and returned to designated storage areas following class.
Communicate participant concerns, equipment needs, and facility issues to supervisory staff.
Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and certification requirements.
Assist with special events, wellness initiatives, fitness assessments, and promotional activities as needed.
Enforce all facility policies, procedures, and risk management guidelines.

Requirements and Preferences

Current nationally recognized Group Fitness Instructor certification.
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain prior to employment.
Strong communication, leadership, and customer service skills.
Ability to demonstrate proper exercise techniques and modifications.
