Job Title: Group Leader / Production SupervisorJob Description

This role leads a production team in an automotive manufacturing environment, ensuring that safety, quality, cost, and delivery targets are consistently met. You will supervise daily operations, develop and coach employees, uphold labor agreements and corporate policies, and support key initiatives in safety, people, quality, responsiveness, and cost. The position requires a hands-on leader who can manage a represented workforce, maintain strong production discipline, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced, multi-shift operation.

Responsibilities
  • Meet production cost schedules while maintaining all quality requirements across assigned operations.
  • Ensure full compliance with local and national labor agreements in a represented manufacturing environment.
  • Implement divisional and corporate policies consistently within the department.
  • Implement and enforce safety standards and good housekeeping practices throughout the work area.
  • Maintain frequent and effective contact with individuals and teams outside the immediate work group to coordinate operations and resolve issues.
  • Train, develop, coach, and evaluate employees to build skills, improve performance, and support career growth.
  • Keep management informed of operational developments, issues, and progress as they occur.
  • Maintain and oversee corporate management control systems, including audit reports, timekeeping systems (such as Kronos), grievance systems, and related documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date department records, reports, and documentation.
  • Use personnel, materials, and equipment effectively to support Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, and Cost (SPQRC) initiatives.
  • Support the plant in achieving its goals in safety, people, quality, responsiveness, and cost by driving adherence to standards and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Support and implement QS9000, ISO14001, and Global Manufacturing System (GMS) compliance processes within the department.
  • Lead and supervise employees in general assembly and other manufacturing operations, ensuring adherence to standard work and production targets.
  • Apply strong analytical skills to identify, analyze, and resolve complex production, quality, and safety problems.
  • Promote and ensure a safe industrial work environment by identifying hazards, enforcing safety rules, and encouraging safe behaviors.
  • Collaborate with safety, quality, and engineering teams to address issues, implement corrective actions, and sustain improvements.
  • Be willing and able to work any assigned shift and perform daily, weekend, and holiday overtime as required to support production needs.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 10 years of automotive experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing.
  • 3–5 years of experience in automotive manufacturing.
  • 3–5 years of experience in safety within an automotive or manufacturing environment.
  • 3–5 years of experience leading people in a production or manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated exceptional ability in leadership, supervision, and the key areas outlined for the role.
  • Completion of a pre-supervisory assessment program required for proper job preparation.
  • Proven leadership interest and abilities necessary for effective supervision of employees.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures, including general assembly operations.
  • Knowledge of basic math to support production calculations and data analysis.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with employees, peers, and management.
  • Understanding of the basic technology used in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Relatively high level of analytical ability to handle complex problems and make sound decisions.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit strong work output.
  • Experience working in a represented environment with unionized employees.
  • Knowledge of and ability to ensure a safe industrial work environment.
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience with automotive operations and processes.
  • 3–5 years of experience supervising or leading teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • 1 year of experience with Kronos or a similar timekeeping system.
  • Experience working under QS9000, ISO14001, or similar quality and environmental management standards.
  • Familiarity with Global Manufacturing System (GMS) practices or other structured production systems.
  • Ability to adapt to changing production demands and support new product launches.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large automotive manufacturing facility operating on a three-shift schedule. The plant runs a 3-shift operation with typical shift times of 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. You must be willing to work any assigned shift and support daily, weekend, and holiday overtime as needed to meet production requirements. The environment involves general assembly and other manufacturing processes, with a strong focus on safety, housekeeping, and adherence to established standards. You will use corporate systems such as audit reporting tools, timekeeping systems like Kronos, and grievance systems, and work within structured frameworks such as QS9000, ISO14001, and Global Manufacturing System (GMS). The facility emphasizes proper industrial attire and personal protective equipment appropriate for a production setting.

This is a Contract position based out of LANSING, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
