GSRP Teacher Assistant
- Reports To: Building Principal
- Employment Status: Part-Time, School Year Position
- Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm (Student Days: Approximately September - May)
Qualifications:
Must have one of the following educational requirements:
- Obtained an associate degree (AA) in early childhood education, child development, or the equivalent; or
A valid classroom CDA credential; or
Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (60+ credits) and must be willing to obtain a CDA or associate degree in early childhood education, child development, or the equivalent within two years from date of hire; or
Achieved a passing score on an MDE approved assessment and must be willing to obtain a CDA or associate degree in early childhood education, child development, or the equivalent within two years from date of hire
Must meet all applicable State of Michigan licensing requirements.
Valid CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Willingness to complete a minimum of 16 hours of annual professional development as required by Michigan child care licensing regulations.
Ability to successfully complete all health requirements of the position, including a physical examination and negative tuberculosis (TB) screening, as required by licensing regulations.
Experience working with preschool-aged children is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team in an educational environment.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
Positive attitude, dependable work habits, strong work ethic, and a genuine commitment to supporting young children and their families.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support children's growth across all developmental domains.
- Help create and maintain a safe, welcoming, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
- Supervise children during classroom instruction, meals, transitions, outdoor play, rest time, and other daily activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Support children's social-emotional development by modeling positive behavior, encouraging independence, and fostering respectful interactions.
- Assist with classroom preparation, organization, cleaning, and maintenance of instructional materials and learning centers.
- Observe student participation and communicate relevant information regarding student progress and needs to the Lead Teacher.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and community partners through respectful and professional communication.
- Participate in required professional development, staff meetings, and training activities.
- Follow district policies and procedures as well as all GSRP, State of Michigan licensing, and program requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and family information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
