GSU Student Position: Pioneer Support Mentor/Tutor

Description Pioneer Support is looking for Mentors to provide in-person and virtual tutoring. Mentors must have experience in professional communication and have excellent customer services skills. Additionally, Mentors must be knowledgeable in the resources and services that Pioneer Support and Glenville State University offers. We are looking for students who are majoring in or have completed coursework in Criminal Justice OR Business.
Examples of Duties • Meet with students in a one-to-one or small-group basis to integrate learning strategies that address problem areas and promote independent learning. • Maintain a weekly schedule of available hours in Pioneer Support for drop-in tutoring appointments. • Ensure coordination and documentation of tutoring sessions by using the Penji scheduling platform. • Attend orientation and training sessions as required by Pioneer Support staff. • Assist with additional duties as needed, e.g., covering front desk, answering phones, organizing materials, organizing the computer lab, performing other clerical duties, etc. • Make appropriate referrals to other campus resources and promptly inform Pioneer Support staff of any developments. • Conduct light cleaning as necessary. • Support all tutoring center policies. • Complete Tutor Certification Process (if applicable).
Typical Qualifications • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in content area. • Recommendation from an instructor in content area preferred. • Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds. • Ability to maintain confidential student information and sign an agreement as to such. • Responsibility, reliability, and punctuality. • Appropriate and professional behavior at all times. • Current enrollment as a GSU student.
