Job Description

This is an exciting seasonal opportunity to work at the Renton Community Center (RCC)! In the Guest Services position, you will welcome customers to the Renton Community Center, process registrations and collect fees, and assist customers in a variety of ways. This position is highly visible and involves frequent interactions and communication with the public, so excellent customer service is a must.

  • Hourly Rates:

Guest Services 1: $21.57 / Hour

Guest Services 2: $23.00 / Hour

Guest Services 3: $26.00 / Hour

  • Placement and hourly rate of pay is dependent upon years of experience and qualifications.

Hours: 20 to 40 hours per week. Shifts can occur during the weekdays/weekends and during the day or evenings.

SUPERVISION:

Reports To: Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Program Coordinator, and/or Designee

Supervises: None

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work at front counter, greet patrons, collect money, process registrations, scan pass cards, handle membership sales, and book facility for rentals.
  • Identify and assess customer needs to achieve satisfaction.
  • Answer phones to provide general customer service.
  • Understand, explain, and enforce facility rules.
  • Set up and take down program equipment.
  • Effective, professional and respectful interactions with patrons and team members.
  • Work as a team player.
  • Be ready to work by scheduled start time.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Maintain accurate accounting of funds received from patrons.
  • Perform tasks that complement all areas within the facility.
  • Understand and follow directions.
  • Work evenings and/or weekends as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Guest Services 1:

  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Successful passing of a required background check.

Guest Services 2:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • 2 - 4 years of previous work, or volunteer, experience with cash handling
  • Successful passing of a required background check.
  • Employees 18 and over will be subject to a credit check.

Guest Services 3:

  • At least 18 years of age, some positions may require at least 21 years of age.
  • 4 - 8 years of previous work, or volunteer, experience related to cash handling.
  • Successful passing of a required background check.
  • Employees 18 and over will be subject to a credit check.

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety guidelines and practices.
  • Skill in overseeing and leading the work of others.
  • Ability to handle conflict and solve problems using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to navigate emergency situations.
  • Work with diverse groups of people in a tactful, effective, and respectful manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the community and program participants.
  • Follow instructions, both written and verbal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds on occasion.
  • Move throughout City facilities and buildings,
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Communicate with City employees and residents.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Noise level is moderately loud.
