Position Overview

Chambers Music Studio is seeking an experienced, passionate guitar educator to serve as our Guitar Instructor & Department Head. This is a part-time teaching and leadership position designed for an educator who enjoys working directly with students while also helping develop a strong, consistent guitar program across the studio.

The Guitar Department Head will teach students several days per week while providing educational leadership for the guitar department. This person will be responsible for developing and maintaining the guitar curriculum, supporting guitar instructors, monitoring instructional quality and student progress, and helping ensure that every guitar student receives an excellent and consistent educational experience.

This is an ideal position for an experienced guitar teacher who wants to continue teaching while taking on curriculum development, mentorship, and program leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Guitar Instruction

• Teach a regular part-time schedule of guitar students several days per week.

• Provide engaging, structured instruction appropriate to each student's age, experience, goals, and learning needs.

• Develop students' skills in areas including technique, music reading, rhythm, ear training, musicianship, repertoire, and performance.

• Prepare students for studio performances, recitals, festivals, and other opportunities.

• Complete lesson notes and student progress documentation according to studio expectations.

• Model Chambers Music Studio's instructional standards and teaching practices for other guitar instructors.

Guitar Curriculum Development

• Develop and maintain a structured guitar curriculum and progression for Chambers Music Studio students.

• Establish clear skills, repertoire, technique, musicianship, and performance expectations at each level.

• Create benchmarks that help instructors and families understand student progress.

• Recommend and organize method books, repertoire, supplemental materials, and other instructional resources.

• Develop assessments or other tools for determining student placement and advancement.

• Review and refine the curriculum as the guitar program grows.

• Ensure the guitar curriculum aligns with the studio's broader educational philosophy and structured student pathway.

Department Leadership & Teacher Accountability

• Serve as the educational leader for guitar instructors across Chambers Music Studio.

• Regularly review lesson notes, student progress, and other indicators of instructional quality.

• Ensure guitar instructors are consistently following curriculum and studio educational expectations.

• Provide instructors with clear, constructive feedback when improvements are needed.

• Recognize and reinforce strong teaching practices.

• Follow up with instructors on identified concerns and ensure agreed-upon improvements are implemented.

• Identify recurring instructional challenges and work with studio leadership to address them.

• Help maintain consistent expectations across instructors, locations, and students.

Teacher Support & Mentorship

• Serve as a resource for guitar instructors when they have questions about curriculum, repertoire, technique, student challenges, or instructional strategies.

• Help onboard and train new guitar instructors in the Chambers guitar curriculum and educational expectations.

• Provide coaching and mentorship to instructors as appropriate.

• Share teaching resources and strategies that strengthen the department as a whole.

• Help create a collaborative culture in which instructors continue developing professionally.

Student Progress & Program Development

• Help ensure guitar students are progressing appropriately through the curriculum.

• Assist with student assessments, placement decisions, or teacher transitions when needed.

• Identify students who may need additional support, a different instructional approach, or increased challenge.

• Help develop opportunities that strengthen the guitar program, including ensembles, performances, workshops, masterclasses, or other educational experiences.

• Provide leadership with recommendations for improving and growing the guitar department.

Position Structure & Compensation

This is a part-time working leadership position combining teaching and department responsibilities.

The primary teaching location for this position is 20 Northwoods Blvd., Columbus, Ohio, with the possibility of occasional responsibilities at other Chambers Music Studio locations or events as the guitar program develops.

The Guitar Instructor & Department Head will maintain a regular teaching schedule several days per week while also receiving designated time for curriculum development, teacher support, instructional review, and department leadership. The exact balance between teaching and leadership responsibilities may evolve based on enrollment and the growth of the guitar department.

Compensation is based on relevant education, teaching experience, professional experience, and qualifications.Chambers Music Studio provides opportunities for annual compensation increases based on performance and longevity with the studio.

Qualifications

Required

• Strong proficiency in guitar performance and pedagogy.

• Demonstrated experience teaching private guitar students.

• Ability to teach students across a range of ages and skill levels.

• Strong understanding of guitar technique, repertoire, music literacy, and musicianship.

• Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.

• Ability to provide constructive feedback and hold colleagues accountable in a professional and supportive manner.

• Ability to create structured systems while still supporting individualized student learning.

• Commitment to reliable communication, documentation, and follow-through.

Preferred

• Bachelor's or master's degree in music, music education, guitar performance, pedagogy, or a related field.

• Experience developing curriculum or instructional materials.

• Experience mentoring, supervising, or training other music educators.

• Experience preparing students for performances, auditions, festivals, or assessments.

• Familiarity with multiple guitar styles and approaches.

• Experience teaching both beginning and advanced students.
