
The Department of Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University, is seeking applicants to fill a full-time, non-tenured, 12-months/year appointment as a Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor or Professor of Practice in small animal internal medicine at Auburn Veterinary Specialists at Gulf Shores, Alabama. The referral hospital provides services in dermatology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, and surgery and participates in the educational mission of the College of Veterinary Medicine, providing focused clinical instruction to senior veterinary students, interns, and residents and continuing education programs for veterinarians.
Responsibilities:Clinical responsibilities will include medical diagnostics and therapeutics of small animal patients and engagement of referring veterinarians. Clinical instruction of participating veterinary students, interns, and residents will be integrated into all aspects of daily operations, including communications to referring veterinarians and clientele. Primary care will not be offered at the referral hospital.
Qualifications:Qualified applicants must hold a DVM or equivalent degree and be a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) at the time employment begins. The successful candidate must be an experienced internist and knowledgeable in the operation of a robust internal medicine service in private practice or academia. The successful candidate should also have a high level of self-motivation and be a team-builder committed to practicing compassionate high-quality medicine. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Eligibility for faculty veterinary licensure in the State of Alabama is also required.
Experience and skill in ultrasonography is desired.

The center operates as a referral-only facility offering dermatology, internal medicine, ophthalmology and surgery services, utilizing advanced diagnostic imaging including on-site CT. The facility also provides an educational function as fourth-year Auburn veterinary students participate in elective two-week clinical rotations. The complex is located along the Foley Beach Expressway in Baldwin County.
The referral hospital includes six exam rooms, two operating rooms (with separate rooms for anesthesia induction, surgical preparation, and recovery), intensive care and critical care areas, central treatment room, endoscopy room, laboratory, pharmaceutical dispensing area, advanced imaging capabilities (radiography, ultrasound, and CT), infectious disease isolation area, nutrition center, and canine and feline wards.
Gulf Shores area: Located on Alabama’s Gulf Coast, the city of Gulf Shores has an excellent public school system, strong medical health facilities and access to some of the world’s most beautiful white sand beaches. The nearby Gulf State Park has beaches, trails, a pier, plus a golf course and the Gulf State Park Lodge https://lodgeatgulfstatepark.com. To the west, sea turtles and migratory birds thrive among the coastal habitats of Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge https://www.fws.gov/refuge/bon-secour. Farther west, 19th-century Fort Morgan guards Mobile Bay. The State’s Dauphin Island Sea Lab is located across Mobile Bay and is a hub for marine science education, marine research and coastal zone management.
