Gymnastics Assistant

(Full Time, Non-Exempt)

Hiring Range is $42,065 to $47,708 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.

Position Summary:

Under the close supervision of the Gymnastics Coordinator, this position assists with gymnastics operations and general leadership in the gymnastics program. Primary responsibilities include programming and supervision of gymnastics birthday parties and assistance with administrative tasks and parent-tot programming. This position will assist with special projects, such as gymnastics home meets, a few times a year. In the absence of the Gymnastics Coordinator, the Gymnastics Assistant will serve as acting Gym Supervisor with a focus on safety while providing general supervision of staff and participants. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

Work Hours: The job requires schedule flexibility to ensure coverage and is primarily responsible for instruction and gym supervision of morning parent-tot programming and to provide leadership and supervision for Sunday birthday parties. Typically expected to work 9 AM-4 PM or 5 PM on weekdays (depending on whether a Sunday is worked that week) and 2 Sundays per month between 9 AM and 4 PM. This is a full-time position with a 40-hour typical work week. Additional day, evening, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required.

Essential Duties:

  • Administers gymnastics birthday party program, including staff scheduling, general program planning and coordination, marketing efforts and customer communication with a strong focus on safety, customer satisfaction and staff productivity while maintaining high levels of participation.
  • Assists with gymnastics class program coordination and supervision for all levels from parent-tot through recreational levels, drop-in gymnastics, and gymnastics camps.
  • Determines staffing needs and creates schedules for birthday parties.
  • Schedules and maintains birthday party reservations; tracks payments online; confirms birthday party details prior to event.
  • Assists with in-house trainings for birthday party and gymnastics staff, such as refresher clinics for coaches throughout the year.
  • Performs as a gymnastics instructor and/or party host as needed. Must be able to cover a variety of parent-tot, party, and basic recreational shifts to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Assists with communication amongst staff and participants.
  • Assists with/creates lesson plans and program agendas for parent-tot classes.
  • Assists with development, implementation, and tracking of marketing strategies to promote programs through a variety of methods. Notifies the public of District events.
  • May be required to work special events as needed, including camps, team meets and department special events.
  • Enforces high program and risk management standards through combination of staff training, adequate procedures and regular review.
  • Works cooperatively with District staff to ensure a positive customer and program experience including, but not limited to, facility scheduling, maintenance, collaborative programs and registration processes.
  • Recognizes emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly; administers first aid and contacts emergency personnel as needed; completes accident/incident reports in a timely manner.
  • Responds tactfully, respectfully, and in a timely manner to inquiries and problems in person, through email, phone and mail by providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures within the area of assignment. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with District employees, vendors, various outside user groups, and participants. Creates a welcoming and responsive culture.
  • Assists with a variety of District and community-wide special events.
  • Maintains records and generates reports including daily maintenance records, attendance reports, incident/accident reports, and inventory logs according to District procedures in a timely manner.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Attends work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.
  • The job requires schedule flexibility to ensure coverage and may be required to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Establishes and enforces class/program rules and policies for patrons and staff.
  • Provides general program leadership in the absence of the Gymnastics Coordinator.
  • Observes necessary precautions to assure general public safety; inspects facilities for safety and maintenance needs. Corrects or informs supervisor of facility hazards. Communicates issues/concerns to supervisor as needed.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age with a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of experience with children, childcare, education, or related field. Two (2) years of experience preferred.
  • Six (6) months of gymnastics coaching experience leading recreational, pre-team, and/or competitive level classes. Two (2) years of experience preferred. Alternatively, experience with physical education, recreation programming, other sports or fitness programming will be considered.
  • Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • HEADS UP Concussion or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification is required within thirty (30) days of hire. Certification must include an in-person, hands-on skills component. Online-only certifications will not be accepted.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or have the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Able to establish and maintain professional working relationships with employees and the public of all ages.
  • Competent in a variety of gymnastics skills progressions and spotting techniques at all levels of gymnastics including competitive, as well as competent in the use of a variety of gymnastics equipment preferred
  • Ability to lead safe, fun and effective movement classes for young children (toddler to school-aged), which includes playing games, singing songs and giving direction to young children and their guardians.
  • Ability to lead safe, fun and effective gymnastics classes for youth from recreational level through competitive level preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and leadership in performance of duties.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to handle money.
  • Ability to perform multiple functions at once and the ability to handle the public in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safety and emergency first aid procedures.
  • Ability to provide superior customer service and resolve customer complaints and escalated problems, as well as emergency situations in the absence of other leadership. Must possess strong problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of or willing to learn recreational programming and gymnastics operations, customer service principles, working with registration, point of sale, and facility scheduling software programs.
  • Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Exceptional customer service is an integral part of this organization, and this position is responsible for creating a culture that is welcoming and responsive to all guests and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule which may include some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Material and Equipment Used:

  • Regularly uses standard office equipment including a personal computer, phone, printer, and copier.
  • Regularly uses and operates first aid supplies and equipment.
  • Regularly uses a variety of gymnastics equipment including, but not limited to, foam pit, balance beams, parallel bars, pommel horse, rings, spring tumble floor, tumble trampoline, uneven bars and vault.
  • Operates two-way radios, audio equipment, time keeping system, and registration software.
  • This position may be required to drive a personal and/or District motor vehicle to various District and off-site facilities.

Working Environment:

  • Primarily works with young children and patrons of all ages in a busy and often loud gym/recreation facility indoor environment.
  • Also works in a comfortable office environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.
  • May occasionally work outside subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems and landscape.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift.
  • Physical work leading a variety of gymnastics programs/classes and ability to carry, lift, push and pull up to 100 pounds. May need to pick up children and gymnastics equipment.
  • Required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and squat, crouch, or crawl.
  • Requires spotting and assisting patrons during the performance of gymnastic moves.
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment.
  • Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information. Vision acuity to see close-up and at a distance with the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. Depth perception and color vision required.
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain clear and effective communication. Must understand and be understood.
