Gyro-Trac Operator at Watersound Club

Job Summary

The Gyro-Trac Operator is responsible for operating specialized forestry mulching and land-clearing equipment to support golf course development, enhancement projects, environmental management, and property maintenance across WaterSound Club's golf properties, including The Third, Shark's Tooth, Camp Creek, and Origins Golf Courses. This position plays a critical role in maintaining natural landscapes, clearing vegetation, preserving course aesthetics, and preparing areas for construction, renovation, and ongoing maintenance initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Equipment Operation

• Safely operate Gyro-Trac forestry mulchers, tracked land-clearing equipment, skid steers, excavators, and other heavy machinery as assigned.
• Clear brush, undergrowth, trees, stumps, and vegetation in accordance with project specifications while protecting desirable trees, landscaping, golf course features, and surrounding infrastructure.
• Perform land-clearing operations for golf course expansions, renovation projects, cart path improvements, drainage enhancements, environmental mitigation efforts, and property beautification.
• Navigate uneven terrain, wooded areas, wetlands, and undeveloped property safely and efficiently.
• Operate equipment in various weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety standards.

Equipment Maintenance & Safety

• Conduct daily pre-operational and post-operational inspections of all equipment.
• Monitor and maintain hydraulic systems, tracks, cutting heads, fluid levels, filters, and safety components.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance, including greasing equipment, cleaning machinery, and replacing worn components.
• Identify and report equipment malfunctions, coordinating repairs as needed.
• Adhere to all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and WaterSound Club operating procedures.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings to prevent property damage, flying debris hazards, and disruption to golf operations.
• Wear and maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Golf Course & Property Support

• Collaborate with Golf Course Superintendents, Grounds Managers, Construction Teams, and Club Leadership to execute land management projects.
• Assist with debris removal, hauling materials, site preparation, grading support, and restoration activities.
• Support environmental stewardship initiatives, including invasive vegetation control, firebreak maintenance, and natural area management.
• Assist with other golf course maintenance duties and heavy equipment operations as business needs require.

Education and Experience

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience operating forestry mulchers, tracked heavy equipment, skid steers, excavators, bulldozers, or similar machinery.
• Experience working in golf course, landscaping, construction, forestry, land development, or related environments preferred.
• Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and communicate with guests about job-related needs.
• Ability to read write and speak, and communicate in basic English preferred
• Valid Driver's License required.
• CDL preferred or ability to obtain if required for equipment transport.
• Equipment certifications or forestry mulching experience preferred.

• Knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and heavy equipment maintenance.
• Ability to read and follow project plans, safety guidelines, and equipment manuals.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
• Capable of climbing into and out of heavy equipment and working on uneven terrain.

Working Conditions

• Primarily outdoor work environment across multiple WaterSound Club properties.
• Frequent exposure to dust, noise, vibration, heat, humidity, insects, pollen, and varying weather conditions.
• Work may occur in wooded areas, undeveloped property, active construction zones, and operational golf course environments.
