Title Half (.5) Graduate Assistant - Career Services and Internship Program Office, Advising Position Description
The Half Graduate Assistant (.5 GA) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring and 3 for summer.

General Statement of Duties
The Career & Internship Advising Half (.5) Graduate Assistant serves in an academic year appointment working approximately 10 hours per week and will report to the Associate Director of Internships & Career Development. This role will contribute to the institutional BSU Works initiative by helping BSU students become career ready. The Half (.5) Graduate Assistant will instruct students one-on-one and in groups on how to create resumes and cover letters, search for internships, prepare for interviews, utilize LinkedIn, develop a job search strategy, and prepare for graduate school. This opportunity will offer practical, direct experience working with college students, event planning support, public speaking and networking with employers, faculty, and staff. The Half (.5) Graduate Assistant will also help to assist with the promotion of services, events, and programs to help the student population develop from student to professional. The Half (.5) Graduate Assistant may represent Career Services & Internships at campus events, in workshop presentations, and various programs and is expected to undertake all responsibilities in a manner that positively reflects the University.

Reports to a full-time Career & Life Design Advisor and is expected to receive some supervision and training by other professional staff in the office.

May assist with oversight of undergraduate student workers as needed.
Core Duties:
- Meet with current students and alumni through in person and virtual advising appointments on topics such as resume and cover letter critiques, internship searching, LinkedIn, effective interviewing, job search strategy, and graduate school planning.
- Receive training in Life Design in order to incorporate a person-centered inquisitive approach to advising as part of a new institutional initiative aligned with BSU Works.
- Promote and instruct students on using Handshake and other online career resources including FOCUS 2, Big Interview, Forage, Parker Dewey, and the Career Services & Internships website.
- Conduct class visit presentations to promote the resources, events, and programs available through Career Services & Internships.
- Present workshops to students on career development topics such as resume and cover letter writing.
- Assist with day of operations for various career fairs, networking events, and programs.
- Assist with general office promotion of events, programs, and resources through online and in person outlets such as information tabling.
- Prioritize all projects and requests from the point of inception through final delivery to meet deadlines.
- Represent the office at various campus events, workshops, and trainings.
- Give a research or project-based presentation related to your experience within this graduate assistantship at the Student Arts & Research Symposium (StARS) held each April.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled (or acceptance for enrollment) in a Bridgewater State University graduate program with good academic standing. Priority consideration will be given to graduate student applicants in the programs of Student Affairs Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, or a closely related field.
- Experience in counseling, advising, mentoring, or coaching students a plus.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with students individually and in groups.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work effectively in a busy, team-based office environment.
- Strong organization and planning skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Comfortable utilizing a variety of technology with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), and social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn). Knowledge of Canva and Qualtrics is a plus.
- Experience with and commitment to issues of diversity within the college campus and the workplace.
- Requires 10 hours per week while school is in session including some evenings and weekends; other hours by mutual agreement. This is a fully in person role, no remote schedule will be allowed.

- This position requests GAs to sit at a desk for long periods of time, stand at events, and lift light boxes from time to time when carrying promotional materials across campus for tabling events.
