Title Half (.5) Graduate Assistant - College of Graduate Studies, Academic Governance and Curriculum Support Position Description
The Half Graduate Assistant (.5 GA) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring and 3 for summer.
Overview
The Graduate Assistant for Academic Governance and Curriculum Support will gain hands-on experience in higher education administration, faculty collaboration, curriculum development processes, and institutional governance. This position provides an opportunity to develop project management, communication, organizational leadership, and policy interpretation skills while supporting the governance activities that shape graduate academic programs.
Working closely with faculty, academic leadership, and College of Graduate Studies staff, the Graduate Assistant will contribute to curriculum review processes, governance initiatives, and strategic academic projects while developing a deeper understanding of university operations and decision-making.
Responsibilities
Academic Governance Support
Assist in supporting the activities of the Graduate Education Council (GEC) and other governance-related initiatives.
Contribute to the preparation of meeting materials, communications, and documentation that support effective council operations.
Observe and engage with institutional governance processes to gain an understanding of academic decision-making.
Curriculum Development and Process Coordination
Support faculty members as they navigate curriculum proposal and approval processes.
Assist with tracking proposal progress and maintaining communication with stakeholders throughout the review cycle.
Develop familiarity with curriculum management systems and higher education approval workflows.
Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and academic leadership on curriculum and governance initiatives.
Help coordinate timelines, deliverables, and communications associated with academic projects.
Participate in problem-solving discussions related to process improvement and workflow efficiency.
Data, Documentation, and Compliance
Assist in maintaining governance records and documentation that support institutional accountability and transparency.
Support the development of reports, summaries, and reference materials related to governance activities.
Learn how universities ensure compliance with academic policies and accreditation-related expectations.
Professional Development
Participate in meetings with faculty and academic leaders to gain exposure to higher education leadership and administration.
Contribute ideas for process improvements and enhanced communication strategies.
Complete special projects aligned with the Graduate Assistant's academic and professional interests.
