Title Half (.5) Graduate Assistant - Zemiology in Criminal Justice Position Description
The Half Graduate Assistant (.5 GA) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring and 3 for summer.
Overview and Responsibilities
This position will involve engaging with research related to my current scholarly projects. Specifically, there are two manuscripts currently being written, and a paper project that would be the focus of the work. The first book is the third book in my justice-as-love project. The second book is a text on theories of justice. The paper project will be a content analysis of Martin Buber's Ecstatic Confessions (1909/1996).
In all three of these tasks, the .5 GA will have the chance to work on reading, organizing, drafting (with full credit, of course - my hope is that the paper will be coauthored) and editing scholarly work in the area of zemiology.
Outcomes
The .5 GA will come away from this experience with greater reading, writing, analysis and editing skills. These skills are wildly transferrable to a host of contexts.
In addition, though, the .5 GA will benefit from engagement with an emergent and powerful discourse (zemiology) - something very few people have at the moment here, or even elsewhere in the world.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications
The .5 GA will have reading, analysis, writing and editing skills at the advanced graduate level. S/he will read primary and secondary works, will help summarize and analyze demanding works related to philosophy/ethics, the natural sciences and criminology.
Physical Demands
Physical Demands
The physical demands for the position include the ability to read and write for extended periods of time and to dialogue with the supervisor. Considerable degrees of freedom exist, though, regarding how any of these things might be accomplished (i.e., seated typing is not necessarily the only or best strategy).
