The Department of Communication and Media Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College invites applications for a half-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer position in Communication Public Speaking, to begin Fall 2026.

The duties in this role include:

• Teach multiple sections of introduction to public speaking, a core first-year general education course for all undergraduates. Qualified candidates may have the opportunity to teach other courses that serve the departments communication curriculum.
• Provide instruction for four in-person courses, carrying a teaching load of 16 credits per academic year. Half-time lecturers typically teach a 2-2 course load across fall and spring semesters.
• Assess student work and provide constructive and timely feedback on how to improve students content knowledge, critical thinking skills, research abilities, and oral and written communication skills, etc.
• Mentor first-year undergraduate students to successfully acclimate to the College.
• Build, maintain and keep current course Canvas sites.
• Hold regular weekly office hours.
• Attend College workshops and professional development opportunities related to the first-year curriculum; engage with the Center for Faculty Excellence and the Communication and Media Studies faculty to further develop teaching and mentoring skills; complete campus-wide training required by the Offices of Academic Affairs and Human Resources.
• Perform a modest amount of departmental service activities such as supporting program assessment efforts, attending department events, and other duties as assigned.

Basic qualifications are required at the time of application:

• The successful candidate will have completed a Masters degree in Communication.
• Applicants must have significant experience teaching public speaking at the college level.
• Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching public speaking.

Salary Range:

The budgeted salary range for this position is $23,000 $25,000.

Founded in 1861, North Central College is a selective, comprehensive liberal arts institution of about 3000 students, located 28 miles west of Chicago in Naperville. The College is in a period of growth with the addition of a $60 million Science Center (2017), and a new Health Sciences and Engineering building (2020). The budgeted salary range for this position is $23,000 $25,000. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the selected candidates experience and qualifications, including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
