Responsibilities/Job Description:
The Hand Therapy Fellow is responsible for providing safe and effective delivery of patient care including Examination, Evaluation, Diagnosis, Planning, Intervention and Establishing Outcomes. University of Minnesota Program in OT Therapy Fellow Position Summary: The Therapy Fellow will instruct and support student learning for entry level Occupational Therapy (OT) students in classroom, simulated clinical, and cadaver lab environments. The employee will provide support to OT course director, and lab instructor, in these same environments through lab setup/takedown, and classroom space management. The employee will support student learning through fielding questions and facilitating discussions.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates and reassesses patient condition.
- Gathers pertinent data.
- Performs appropriate evaluation.
- Determines occupational therapy profile and intervention diagnosis
- Determines plan of care.
- Analyzes data to identify needs and potential risks.
- Determines prognosis for recovery.
- Establishes goals with patient or caregiver.
- Implements and modifies plan of care based on reassessment and patient response.
- Coordinates care and communicates effectively with interdisciplinary team to achieve desired outcomes.
- Establishes appropriate discharge plan.
- Provides appropriate and effective interventions.
- Educates patient and family on appropriate care.
- Complies with standards of productivity and time management.
- Provides proper documentation of interventions provided and patient response.
- Supervises and directs appropriate members of rehab team.
- Delegates tasks appropriately to assistants/clerks/aides/transporters/extenders
- Responsible for personal and professional development to ensure current knowledge required for position.
- As assigned by the Residency Coordinator, actively mentors or otherwise assists in the professional development of Therapists

- Provides periodic continuing education sessions to staff
- Meets the qualifications as indicated by their contract with the University of Minnesota
- Demonstrate sufficient awareness and insight to promote and not compromise the safety and well-being of students, self and classmates while in classroom environment
- Demonstrates sufficient visual-perceptual motor skills to promote and not compromise the safety and wellbeing of students and self while in classroom
- Demonstrate behaviors, attitudes and communication skills that promote and do not compromise the safety and well-being of students and self.
Required Qualifications
- Occupational Therapy License in the State of Minnesota
- Level II Hand Therapy Fieldwork or completion of six months of Occupational Therapy practice
- AOTA membership
- Basic Life Support (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy
- Six Months of Upper Extremity Rehabilitation
Qualifications:
$24.08- $34.01 Hourly
