    Job Description

    HandyManBronx, NY | On-site

    About the Company

Equal Access is partnering with a respected property management firm that manages affordable housing communities throughout New York City. We believe that well-maintained properties and responsive service create a better living experience for every resident. If you take pride in your craftsmanship, enjoy solving problems, and want to make a meaningful impact by helping maintain safe, welcoming homes, we'd love to hear from you.

    The Role

This is a hands-on maintenance role supporting a residential building in the Bronx. The work is practical and varied, ranging from plumbing and electrical to carpentry, painting, and seasonal outdoor upkeep. You will be the person residents call when something is broken, and you will be expected to show up, assess it, and fix it.

The team is looking for someone who can work independently without much hand-holding. You know what you are doing, you manage your time well, and you communicate clearly with both building staff and tenants when something needs attention or escalation.

This is not a supervisory or project management role. It is skilled trade work, done consistently and reliably, day in and day out.

What This Role Is, and Is Not

    This role is:

    • Hands-on general maintenance across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and appliance repair

    • A solo or small-team role requiring strong independent judgment

    • Tenant-facing, so basic interpersonal communication matters

    • Physically demanding, including lifting, climbing, and sustained movement throughout the day

    • A role where the unexpected is the norm, and flexibility is part of the job

    This role is NOT:

    • A licensed electrician or licensed plumber position (work is general and non-specialized)

    • A supervisory or contractor management role

    • Remote, hybrid, or flexible on location

    • A fit for someone who needs close supervision or detailed daily direction

    Required Experience & Traits

    • 3 to 5 years of hands-on maintenance or handyman experience in residential buildings

    • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repair, enough to troubleshoot and fix problems without calling in a specialist for routine issues

    • Familiarity with building systems and basic safety protocols

    • Reliable and punctual.

    • Comfortable interacting with tenants in a professional, calm manner

    • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and handle tasks involving standing, bending, and ladder work throughout the day

    • Basic computer skills for work order documentation; Yardi experience is a plus

    • Spanish language ability is a genuine plus given the tenant population, not a requirement but it will make the job easier

    Key Responsibilities

    General Repairs & Carpentry

    • Fix doors, windows, locks, and hinges, and address minor structural issues as they arise

    • Build or repair shelves, cabinets, and frames, and patch or replace damaged flooring

    Plumbing & Electrical

    • Unclog drains, trace and repair leaks, and install or replace basic fixtures

    • Replace bulbs, switches, and outlets, install light fixtures, and perform minor electrical troubleshooting within a non-licensed scope

    Painting & Finishing

    • Handle touch-up and full wall painting as needed

    • Repair drywall and plaster to a clean, tenant-ready finish

    Appliance & Outdoor Maintenance

    • Install and troubleshoot small household appliances

    • Maintain lawn and garden areas, repair fencing, and clean gutters on a seasonal schedule

    Preventive & Ongoing Maintenance

    • Conduct regular property inspections to catch issues before they become urgent

    • Complete seasonal maintenance tasks and respond to ad-hoc repair requests as assigned
