Description

Hardware Engineer

VersaLogic's team of high-tech folk design and manufacture high-reliability embedded computer boards for mission-critical applications across aeronautic, defense and medical industries. 

The Hardware Engineer plays a critical role in VersaLogic’s development of new products and services.  Tasks include performing feasibility studies, selecting components, writing technical documentation, creating schematics, defining layout guidelines, participating in design reviews, debugging boards and systems, executing tests, and guiding technical resources. 

Job Responsibilities

 Job Duties 

  • Support Test Engineering and Manufacturing on testing requirements and prototype builds 
  • Assist Technical Support with product related problems or questions 
  • Define and continuously improve Engineering processes  
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • 3 or more years’ experience in an engineering environment developing and/or validating board level designs  
  • Solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals 
  • Good understanding of x86 architecture 
  • Good understanding of design process flow 
  • Good understanding of oscilloscopes, multimeters and  schematic capture 

Essential Skills

  • Board-Level Design: Experience with component selection, schematic capture, and creating precise layout guidelines for PCB designers.
  • Testing & Debugging: Comfort using bench tools like oscilloscopes and multimeters to diagnose prototype errors or investigate field failures.
  • X86 Architecture Familiarity: Because VersaLogic builds standard-based embedded computers (like PC/104 architectures), basic knowledge of how x86 processors operate, boot, and communicate with peripherals is crucial.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: The role explicitly emphasizes collaborating with manufacturing teams, test engineers, and technical support agents.
