Team Red Dog is hiring a Hardware Prototype Assembly Technician for our client, a world-class innovation client and Fortune 100 technology leader. In this hands-on role, you’ll work alongside engineers in a prototype development environment to assemble, disassemble, modify, and validate specialized laptop devices using precision hand tools. You’ll contribute directly to an important consumer electronics prototyping project where device quality, careful workmanship, and on-time delivery are critical. This is a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience supporting cutting-edge hardware development and prototype device assembly.

Top Required Skills (Must Haves):

  1. Hands-on experience using precision hand tools such as screwdrivers, tweezers, and similar tools for detailed mechanical or electronics assembly; 2+ years preferred.
  2. Experience assembling, disassembling, repairing, or modifying laptops, computers, consumer electronics, or other devices with small and delicate components.
  3. Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently perform precise, high-quality assembly work while following technical instructions and established procedures.
  4. Strong English reading and verbal communication skills, including the ability to understand technical documentation, engineering instructions, and SOPs.

Opportunity Overview:

Join a specialized prototype center supporting the hands-on build of upcoming consumer electronics hardware. During this focused five-week project, you’ll work in a dedicated device assembly environment alongside engineers and an experienced client FTE, learning the assembly process and producing specialized laptop prototypes on a defined delivery schedule. It’s an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building, repairing, or working with technology to gain first-hand experience in a Fortune 100 hardware prototyping environment.

How you will make an impact:

  • Assemble and disassemble specialized laptop prototypes and electronic devices using precision hand tools.
  • Install, replace, modify, and rework hardware components according to engineering instructions.
  • Perform functional checks and basic troubleshooting on assembled devices.
  • Inspect completed devices for quality, workmanship, and adherence to specifications.
  • Identify and document assembly issues or hardware concerns.
  • Follow engineering documentation, standard operating procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Work closely with engineers and the FTE leading the assembly effort to meet scheduled device deliverables.
  • Maintain a high level of precision and care when working with premium products and delicate components.

The expertise you bring:

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience using small hand tools such as screwdrivers, tweezers, or similar precision tools.
  • Experience with electronics assembly, laptop or computer repair, hardware rework, mechanical assembly, or comparable detailed hands-on work.
  • Ability to confidently assemble and disassemble devices containing small or delicate components.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and consistency.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow technical documentation and detailed assembly instructions.
  • Strong English reading and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineers and other technical team members.
  • Previous experience working in a lab, prototype, engineering, or consumer electronics environment is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent relevant hands-on experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite in Redmond, Washington for the duration of the assignment.
  • Availability to work approximately 30–40 hours per week during the first three weeks and 40–50 hours per week during the final two weeks.

What makes a candidate highly successful in this role:

A highly successful candidate enjoys building and working with physical technology and has demonstrated experience handling small, delicate components with precision and care. Candidates who have worked in electronics or mechanical assembly, repaired laptops or consumer electronics, supported a technical lab, or built their own computers will be particularly well positioned for this work. Steady hands, patience, attention to detail, and pride in producing consistently high-quality finished devices are especially important, as performance will be measured by both assembly quality and the ability to meet project delivery deadlines.
