Hardware Test Engineer (Manufacturing)

WHOOP is hiring a Hardware Test Engineer (Manufacturing) to develop the automated test solutions that ensure every WHOOP device meets the highest standards of quality and reliability. You will drive manufacturing test strategy from early product development through mass production, developing test methodologies, electrical test systems, and automated test software that are deployed on manufacturing lines around the world. Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Firmware, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, and the Manufacturing Platform Software team, you'll build scalable production test solutions that enable rapid product launches and world-class manufacturing quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and implement manufacturing test solutions for products and subsystems, contributing to Design for Test (DFT) efforts throughout the product development lifecycle

• Develop and validate test methodologies to achieve appropriate coverage, accuracy, repeatability, and robustness for production use

• Design, build, and validate automated test equipment (ATE), electrical test systems, instrumentation, and control systems, and partner on the development of production test fixtures

• Develop automated test software in Python to control instrumentation and validate electrical, functional, RF, and sensor performance in manufacturing

• Collaborate with Hardware, Firmware, Manufacturing, Quality, and Mechanical Engineering teams to implement test requirements, improve test coverage, reduce cycle time, and increase manufacturing yield

• Support factory bring-up and production activities with manufacturing partners, including fixture qualification, calibration, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of deployed test systems

• Analyze manufacturing and test data using statistical methods to identify failure trends, evaluate test performance, and support improvements to product quality and manufacturing processes

• Own test development projects and execute defined workstreams within larger product development programs, working with senior engineers to resolve complex technical challenges

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline

• 2+ years of experience developing hardware test systems, automated test equipment, or manufacturing test solutions for consumer electronics or similar products

• Strong fundamentals in electronics and experience working with laboratory instrumentation and communication protocols such as UART, I²C, SPI, USB, Bluetooth, or NFC

• Understanding of metrology fundamentals, including measurement accuracy, repeatability, and calibration

• Experience designing, building, or debugging electrical test systems, including schematics, test interface electronics, or PCBAs; experience with tools such as Altium Designer is a plus

• Proficiency in Python and experience using software to automate hardware, instrumentation, or test processes; experience with C/C++ or other systems languages is a plus

• Experience debugging hardware and software issues using structured problem-solving techniques

• Experience analyzing engineering or manufacturing data to evaluate test performance and identify failure trends; familiarity with SPC and manufacturing process capability is a plus

• Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment is preferred

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams

• Ability to travel up to 15%, both domestically and internationally

• Strong commitment to leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $120,000 - $160,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.

In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.

These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
