Under the direction of the assigned Program Clinical Supervisor or Manager, the Harm Reduction Specialist is responsible for providing harm reduction education and outreach, including naloxone distribution, HIV and Hepatitis C prevention, and safer sex practices, to consumers in the Syringe Exchange Program.

DUTIES:

  • Processes incoming referrals and schedules intake visits.
  • Completes intake assessments for CRSEP program, including basic demographic information.
  • Monitors and orders supplies as needed and disposes of biohazard waste according to established procedures.
  • Coordinates syringe exchanges, including updating drop-box codes as needed.
  • Provides outreach and education regarding naloxone distribution, HIV and Hepatitis C prevention and safer sex practice to consumers.
  • Provides HIV and Hepatitis C screenings as appropriate, makes referrals for follow up as needed, and maintains records of results.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing, establishes positive public relations and interacts effectively with a diverse array of professionals and consumers.
  • Required to travel in own vehicle throughout the state for agency-related business.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent plus at least 1 year of related knowledge and experience in working with individuals presenting with substance use, harm reduction, and/or behavioral health disorders is required. Must maintain a current drivers license and have a clean driving record.
