Hazardous Waste Lead
BB&E is an employee-owned full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors.
BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Hazardous Waste Lead forNASA Johnson Space Center located in Houston, TX.
Arrange for pickup of waste (hazardous waste, universal waste, non-hazardous waste, Toxic Substances Control Act waste) upon receiving a valid request from Center generator
Requirementso
o Ability to successfully pass a federal agency background checkis required.
Knowledge:
o Experience preparing hazardous waste turn-in, shipping, and tracking documents.
o Prior hazardous waste lab pack disposal experience.
o Practical knowledge of HW management, a solid understanding of hazardous material identification and management.
o Familiarity with sources of information pertaining to chemical and radiological hazards.
o The ability to safely move and load heavy drums and containers containing harmful products.
o Handling, processing, packaging, and tracking hazardous waste for shipment, treatment, and disposal.
o Familiarity with hazardous waste regulations and procedures.
o OSHA and State and Federal Hazardous Waste regulations.
o Problem-solving skills to identify and address any issues that may arise during the waste management process, minimizing risks and preventing accidents.
Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Software: Proficiency using MS Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to solve problems and function as a member of a team.
o Experience: A minimum of 6 years’ related experience is required in RCRA hazardous waste management, including comprehensive cradle-to-grave oversight of hazardous waste operations.
o Certification and Training: Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Management training, DOT Hazmat Employee training, and a minimum of 40 hours of OSHA HAZWOPER training.
o Education: A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or higher in environmental science, engineering, or in a related field is required.
o Must be able to walk, sit, and/or stand for extended periods for multiple days/weeks
o Able to operate office equipment, including computers, copy machine, phone, etc.
o Capable of light lifting, up to 50 lbs.
o Working conditions:
o Able to work both indoors/outdoor (with exposure to the elements)
o Able to walk/climb/knee/crouch and reach
o Able to work on rough terrain when necessary
o Able to work in confined spaces and/or heights
o Able to wear the required PPE, minimally wear gloves, a hard hat, a respirator, and steel-toe boots that may be in combination with protective clothing/suits, a respirator, and/or a fall restraint/recovery harness
o Exposure to hazards/contaminants at times
