JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: HDCI Graphic Design Technician
JOB GOAL:
The Graphic Design Technician will create a safe academic environment that encourages student engagement, while effectively delivering the program curriculum. As such, the technician is expected to plan, organize, and teach in a manner that produces student competency in the discipline area.
RESPONSIBLE TO: CTE Director / HDCI Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or General Education Equivalent (GED).
- Actively performed work in the Graphic Design, Advertising Design, Visual Arts, Broadcasting, and Podcasting or design as they pertain to the industry for a minimum of (5) years more years or service is preferred.
- Preferred to hold a valid and active license in one of the areas listed in the 2025-2026 Alabama Occupational Proficiency List - see link below.

- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Graphic Design and Advertising Design and safety standards related to design.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic computer skills demonstrating effective use of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to complete objectives without direct supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a professional demeanor with all students, coworkers, and community members.
- Provide excellent classroom instruction through positive and inspiring learning experiences for all students using a variety of teaching methods and making every learning situation relevant to career preparation.
- Recommend changes in the curriculum to maintain a current program.
- Monitor the progress for each student in the program.
- Work as a teammate with other instructors and support staff.
- Update and continually improve your own teaching techniques and skills and successfully complete all required professional development activities.
- Work creatively in all classes, encourage students, and maintain satisfactory retention.
- Begin and end each class at the designated times, providing a full period of instruction.
- Accurately maintain attendance records in accordance with the Attendance Policy, submit. class roster daily, maintain a separate record of attendance and grades that is clearly labeled and turned in at the end of the term.
- Attend faculty meetings, and other HDCI events as required by the Walker County Schools.
- Participate in extracurricular activities, such as campus and community events.
- Supervise all laboratory experience.
- Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.
- Maintain proper inventory of all equipment and tools assigned to the program.
- Maintain an active advisory committee which meets twice a year, minimally.
- Visit industry to develop and maintain a good rapport with employers and to monitor students participating in internships.
- To utilize a Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO) to develop leadership and teamworking skills in all students and participate in CTSO events and competitions.
- Take an active role in the advice and counseling of students.
- Assist students to find employment in an occupation related to training.
- Contribute to the overall mission and Operating Procedures of the Heman Drummond Center of Innovation by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 months (182 days) (7 hours/day) contract.
SALARY RANGE: Appropriate placement on current salary schedule including in part or total years of verifiable Industry/Work Experience in and specific to Program Area Pathway.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of Board policy.
