Job Description
The Head Baseball Coach reports to the Director of Athletics and/or their designee and is responsible for the leadership, administration, and overall operation of the Universitys NCAA Division I Baseball program. The Head Coach is expected to develop and sustain a competitive program that promotes excellence in athletics, academics, personal development, and sportsmanship while maintaining full compliance with University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Recruit and retain academically and athletically qualified student-athletes who align with the mission and values of Stetson University.
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for all aspects of the baseball program, establishing goals that support competitive success, academic achievement, and student-athlete development.
- Plan, organize, and conduct practices, skill instruction, conditioning sessions, and game preparation to maximize team performance.
- Lead, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff, including responsibilities related to hiring, training, mentoring, performance management, and professional development.
- Oversee team scheduling, travel logistics, and operational planning for all team activities.
- Manage all facets of the programs budget in accordance with departmental and University policies.
- Monitor and support the academic progress, retention, and graduation success of student-athletes.
- Foster a positive culture that emphasizes integrity, accountability, leadership, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
- Evaluate student-athlete performance and provide ongoing coaching, instruction, and mentorship.
- Assist with fundraising, marketing, alumni engagement, and community outreach initiatives that support the baseball program, Athletics Department, and University.
- Maintain a fiscally responsible and administratively efficient program.
- Ensure strict adherence to University, Athletics Department, conference, and NCAA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Represent Stetson University in a professional manner at campus, community, conference, and NCAA events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or their designee.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer applications and technology commonly used in collegiate athletics administration and recruiting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations and a commitment to maintaining full compliance.
- Experience managing the daily operations of a collegiate baseball program, including recruiting, scheduling, budget administration, player development, team travel, and program organization.
- Knowledge of player development, practice planning, strength and conditioning coordination, and competitive strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with student-athletes, colleagues, alumni, donors, boosters, and community stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to supporting the educational goals and overall well-being of student-athletes.
- Ability to support and advance the Universitys mission, values, and commitment to inclusive excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years of collegiate coaching experience at the NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, professional, or equivalent level; or five (5) years of related coaching and leadership experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to NCAA Division I rules, regulations, and compliance expectations.
- Commitment to the academic success and holistic development of student-athletes.
- Ability to effectively recruit, coach, and develop student-athletes across a broad range of skill levels and competitive backgrounds.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with student-athletes, administrators, faculty, alumni, donors, boosters, and community members.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida drivers license and an insurable driving record.
- Successful completion of all required background screenings and motor vehicle record checks.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
- Masters degree.
- Previous experience leading or serving in a significant leadership role within a successful collegiate baseball program.
- Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing, and retaining high-performing student-athletes.
- Proven commitment to fostering a culture of academic achievement, competitive excellence, and student-athlete welfare.
- Strong fundraising, alumni relations, and community engagement experience.
- Ability to lead with integrity and positively impact the personal, academic, and athletic development of student-athletes.
Work authorization sponsorship may be available for this position. However, sponsorship is contingent upon the non-applicability of the visa petition fees outlined in the relevant Executive Order signed September 19, 2025. Due to the recent federally-mandated increased financial expense, the university is not in a position to absorb this significantly increased cost of sponsorship for new H-1B petitions at this time.
