SUMMARY
The Head Cheer Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the cheer program in compliance with National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) regulations, Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) requirements, and the institutional policies of Kansas City Kansas Community College. This includes developing student-athletes' athletic performance, academic achievement, and personal growth.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
On-Floor Coaching & Team Development
Coaching/Teaching: Utilize cheer team-specific floor coaching and teaching strategies/methods during game performances/practices to optimize season-long success of the cheer team.
Mascot Oversight: Responsible for the recruitment, training, and scheduling of the KCKCC Blue Devil Mascot, including intercollegiate contests, campus, and community events.
Rules Knowledge and Stunt Certification: Maintain and implement current knowledge regarding all AACCA cheering rules and regulations.
Student-Athlete Recruitment & Advancement
Recruiting: Identify and secure high-level students for cheer team performances and award appropriate scholarship amounts while abiding by all rules and regulations prescribed by the NJCAA, KJCCC/Region VI, and Kansas City Kansas Community College.
Promoting Sophomores: Promote cheer team members who wish to transfer to 4-year institutions. Emphasis should be placed on securing athletic scholarships for athletes who want to continue their pursuit of a cheer/academic career.
Student Life, Conduct & Academics
Supervising/Disciplining Athletes: Monitor the behavior of the cheer team in on- and off-campus settings, including student housing, where cheer team members represent Kansas City Kansas Community College, ensuring the highest standards of citizenship, sportsmanship, academic success, and conduct.
Disciplinary Reporting: Provide the Director of Athletics with reports of misbehavior and the disciplinary actions taken to address it.
Academic Monitoring: Work with the Academic Advisors and the Director of Athletics to ensure eligibility status and appropriate academic progress of the cheer team. Specific attention should be given to encouraging a cheer team to complete its graduation requirements.
Operations, Budgeting & Facilities
Game and Practice Management: Conducting and supervising all cheer team performances and competitions according to the rules and regulations prescribed by the NJCAA, KJCCC/Region VI, and Kansas City Kansas Community College.
Budgeting: Provide for approval to the Director of Athletics and adhere to a fiscally responsible yearly budget that includes cheer equipment, team transportation costs (meals, hotels, vehicles, gas, etc.), and recruiting expenses.
Facilities Care: Oversee the care of the game performance and practice areas for the cheer team. Make regular checks of the condition of facilities and equipment before and after use, while enforcing all college and athletic department rules and regulations, including safety rules.
Purchasing/Inventory of Equipment: Submit all purchase requests for the cheer team to the Assistant Director of Athletics for approval, and provide all requested inventory reports to control inventory.
Athlete Healthcare: Coordinate all matters relating to cheer team health with the Kansas City Kansas Community College Athletic Training Staff.
Public Relations, Revenue & Administration
Public Relations: Serve as the primary representative of the cheer team to all internal and external constituencies to promote and enhance the image of the cheer team as well as all other Kansas City Kansas Community College sports, KJCCC/Region VI, and the NJCAA.
Fundraising: Coordinate all external/internal revenue-generating initiatives/events with the Director of Athletics and Foundation Office to enhance the cheer team operating budget.
Attending Meetings: Attend all meetings required of the athletic staff about the NJCAA, KJCCC/Region VI, and Kansas City Kansas Community College Athletics.
Other Duties: Other duties and guidelines assigned by the Director of Athletics.
