What You'll Do

The Head Coach, Softball provides strategic vision, leadership, and comprehensive oversight of all aspects of the softball program. Responsibilities include program administration, budget management, student-athlete academic success, and competitive excellence. Oversees recruitment, practice and game preparation, scheduling, travel coordination, equipment management, and fundraising initiatives. Ensures a holistic student-athlete experience that integrates academic achievement, athletic performance, and personal development while maintaining full compliance with institutional and governing body regulation.

Primary Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leadership and Coaching: Recruit, develop, and coach student-athletes to achieve competitive success. Foster a culture of accountability, sportsmanship, and excellence while providing leadership and mentorship to student-athletes and assistant coaches.
  • Student Development: Promote the holistic development of student-athletes by supporting their academic, athletic, leadership, and social growth.
  • Recruitment and Retention: Lead strategic recruitment efforts by identifying, evaluating, and vetting prospective student-athletes. Support student integration by connecting athletes with campus resources and student organizations to enhance retention and engagement.
  • Collaboration and Institutional Engagement: Partner with campus departments and external stakeholders to enhance visibility and strengthen the brand of Tallahassee State College Athletics and the softball program.
  • Culture of Excellence: Cultivate a high-performing program that prioritizes academic success, competitive achievement, and active participation in service learning and community engagement.
  • Community Engagement: Expand and support meaningful community outreach initiatives that enhance student-athlete development and program visibility.
  • Academic Oversight and Compliance: Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes toward graduation or transfer. Ensure full compliance with all applicable rules and regulations, including those of the National Junior College Athletic Association, Florida College System Activities Association, its Council for Athletic Affairs, the Panhandle Conference, and the College.
  • Budget and Operations Management: Manage the softball program budget in accordance with institutional policies. Oversee expenditures, purchasing, and travel logistics, ensuring efficient and responsible use of resources.
  • Scheduling and Program Operations: Develop and implement practice and competition schedules that balance competitive opportunities with academic priorities. Coordinate team travel, housing, meals, and related logistics, including expense reporting.
  • Professional Engagement and Administration: Participate in conference and association meetings as required. Develop a competitive game schedule in collaboration with the Director of Athletics. Respond to internal and external inquiries in a professional and timely manner. Support the maintenance and upkeep of softball facilities and equipment.
  • Program Visibility and Exposure: Design schedules and initiatives that provide student-athletes with opportunities to compete at a high level while increasing exposure and engagement with Tallahassee State College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the athletics department and institutional priorities.

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a candidate who brings not only technical expertise but also a passion for education and student success. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Four (4) years of basketball coaching experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Collegiate coaching experience and/or a degree in sports management, physical education, health, or a related field is preferred.
  • A master's degree in one of these fields is also preferred
