Benefits Job Description

The Head Coach is required to possess the expertise in their respective sport and exhibit excellence in coaching and instruction in practice and contests while serving as a positive example of a leader and role model. While the primary responsibility of the position is providing instruction to athletes, this individual will be responsible for recruiting and retaining student athletes in an effort to provide opportunities for team and individual academic and athletic success; organizing and conducting practices; assisting with the hiring of assistant coaches; ensuring adherence to the NJCAA Code of Ethics; support and participate in development, fundraising and corporate sponsorship efforts in partnership with the Harford Community College Foundation; performing other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship for this position

Required Education

High School diploma or GED and college credits with a minimum of 60 hours or more are required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Required Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of basketball experience is required, to include a combination of active game situation coaching at the high school, club/select, or collegiate level and multiple years of professional playing/coaching experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Candidates must possess expertise in basketball and exhibit excellence in coaching and instruction in practice and contests while serving as a positive example of a leader and role model. Other requirements include:

  • Must have a valid Driver's License and a good driving record with fewer than three points.
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in sports strategies that allow excellence in coaching and instruction in practice and contests while serving as a positive example of a leader and role model.
  • Prior experience with recruiting efforts and student-athlete retention.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills.
  • Prior experience and participation in development, fundraising and corporate sponsorship efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates familiar with NJCAA and Maryland JUCO guidelines and policies.

Hours per Week 20 General Weekly Work Schedule

Hours vary based on practice and game schedules and the needs of the College.
