Purpose: An employee in this class performs a variety of manual activities cleaning and maintaining buildings. An employee in this class also performs minor maintenance to the buildings. The employee performs a variety of duties in accordance with established practices and cleaning schedules. An employee in this class will introduce minor changes in procedures and solve simple problems before contacting a supervisor Errors will be revealed by inspection of work and are not likely to result in major loss of time or resources. The employee receives limited supervision.
Qualifications:
Some experience in institutional housekeeping
Physical Requirements:
Depending on the job duties assigned for the day, the employees may perform lifting and pulling on a more frequent or less frequent basis. However, job duties may change throughout the week depending on the needs of the individual department or school at which the employee may be working. Bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and being on feet for extended periods of time may be a frequent occurrence.
Walking backwards will be a common requirement, especially when assisting in finishing floors.
Lifting up to 50 pounds, more than 50 pounds with assistance, may be a common requirement.
Climbing ladders up to 2 feet may be required on occasion.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of Rowan-Salisbury Schools cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
Skills and knowledge in the use of custodial equipment used in routine cleaning.
Ability to maintain positive working relations.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral or written directions.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Registered Technician Card for pesticide application. Illustrative Examples of Work:
Scrub, dusts, sweeps, mops, vacuums, waxes and polishes floors in room, hallways and closets
Washes windows, woodwork, walls and other surfaces
Scrubs and cleans restroom fixtures, floors, and walls
Replenishes tissue, towels, and soap in restrooms and classrooms
Replaces light bulbs and florescent tubes
Empties wastebaskets and other refuse receptacles
Locks and unlocks doors
Sorts and stores materials for recycling program
Makes minor reports to furniture or facilities
Reports to supervisor damages or needed repairs requiring outside attention
Request custodial supplies monthly from custodial warehouse
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Daily inspect and maintain appearance of buildings, grounds, parking areas
Assist principal/assistant principal in supervising custodial staff
Clean restroom facilities daily
Strip and refinish floors
Request adequate custodial supplies from custodial warehouse
Assist Custodial Manager in controlling supply usage and inventories
Assist Custodial Manager in the training of newly hired custodians
Assist any way deemed necessary by principal/assistant principal/custodial manager
