JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Clean and maintain a portion of the building.

  2. Set up and operate automatic scrubbing machines, rotary scrubbers/buffers, wet/dry vacuum cleaners, vacuum cleaners, carpet extractors, and shampooers. Machine scrub floors, spray buff floors, and shampoo carpets.

  3. Shampoo all carpets in the district's buildings as requested in the summer.

  4. Cut and trim the grass.

  5. Cultivate around shrubs and trees.

  6. Shovel snow; sand and salt sidewalks and drives.

  7. Operation of power and riding mowers and snow blowers.

  8. If necessary, responsible for all boiler monitoring.

  9. Responsible for setting all clocks (time changes, outdoor lights, security system, heating units, etc.).

  10. Responsible for energy conservation in the school - heat, light, and water.

  11. Responsible for minor furniture repairs.

FREQUENT FUNCTIONS

  1. Directs the activities of assigned summer custodial staff.

  2. Performs the duties of the head custodian at the assigned school.

  3. Responsible for emphasizing safety rules.

  4. Responsible for receiving materials and budget items.

  5. Responsible for the appearance of the building - inside and out - cleanliness and neatness including snow removal.

  6. Responsible for making emergency phone calls to the maintenance department, water department, light company, etc.

  7. Responsible for notifying the Coordinator of Facilities Services of contractors visiting the building.

  8. Conduct tours of the building for contractors, fire inspectors, health department inspectors, OSHA inspectors, etc. upon request.

  9. If requested, responsible for fire drills - the timing of drills and recordings.

  10. Responsible for issuing work orders.

  11. Responsible for reporting all injuries of the custodial staff to the school office.

  12. Attend all custodial meetings called by the Coordinator of Facilities Services.

  13. Attend meetings with the principal at the school when asked.

  14. Serve on special committees as requested by the building principals and/or the Coordinator of Facilities Services.

  15. Help to prevent property loss that may be caused by abuse, freezing, neglect, or careless usage.

  16. Practice economy by keeping all tools and equipment in serviceable condition; turn off all utilities when not needed, and practice "preventive maintenance" by keeping all equipment, etc. in serviceable condition.

  17. Attend in-service training sessions.
