Summary

Wayland Academy is an independent, coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school founded in 1855. The Head Football Coach serves as the leader of the Academy's 8-Man Football program and is responsible for developing a competitive, student-centered program that reflects the Academy's mission of Knowledge and Character. As an independent contractor, the Head Coach provides leadership in all aspects of the football program while promoting integrity, sportsmanship, academic achievement, player development, and community engagement.

Essential Functions

  • Provide overall leadership, organization, planning, and administration of the football program.
  • Develop a long-term vision aligned with the Academy's mission and athletic philosophy.
  • Plan and supervise practices emphasizing skill development, conditioning, player safety, and sportsmanship.
  • Teach football fundamentals, advanced strategies, and leadership skills.
  • Monitor academic progress and encourage student success.
  • Develop game plans and oversee all aspects of competition.
  • Recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
  • Promote participation and assist with student recruitment when appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, administration, officials, and the community.
  • Ensure compliance with all WIAA, conference, and Academy policies.
  • Maintain equipment accountability and assist with budget recommendations.
  • Promote athlete health, safety, and well-being.

Additional Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Attend coaches' meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Represent Wayland Academy with professionalism.
  • Support the Academy through admissions and community events as requested.
  • Perform additional coaching-related duties mutually agreed upon in the contract.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous football coaching experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational ability.
  • Ability to obtain required certifications and pass background screening.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Head coaching experience.
  • Experience coaching 8-Man Football.
  • Independent or boarding school experience.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.

Independent Contractor Requirements

  • This position is an independent contractor engagement and is not eligible for employee benefits.
  • Contractor is responsible for all applicable taxes and obligations associated with independent contractor status.
  • Maintain all required certifications throughout the contract period.
  • Successfully complete required background screening before providing services.
