2026-2027 Supplemental Salary: $4,663.00

Position Overview

Bowling Green City Schools is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Head Gymnastics Coach to lead and develop the district''s gymnastics program. The Head Coach is responsible for preparing student-athletes for interscholastic competition while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, academic responsibility, personal growth, safety, and a positive athletic experience.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills and will work collaboratively with student-athletes, assistant coaches, school staff, families, and the Athletic Department.

2026-2027 Season Dates

  • First Day of Coaching: October 30, 2026
  • Season Begins: November 30, 2026
  • Non-Interscholastic Date: January 18, 2027
  • Tournament Entry Deadline: January 25, 2027
  • District Tournament: February 15-28, 2027
  • State Tournament: March 6-7, 2027

Season dates and competition schedules are subject to applicable Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) rules and scheduling requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Head Gymnastics Coach will:

  • Plan, organize, and conduct practices, scrimmages, and competitions.
  • Prepare student-athletes for interscholastic competition with an emphasis on skill development, fundamentals, conditioning, and safe participation.
  • Promote student participation and foster an inclusive, positive, and supportive team environment.
  • Provide appropriate instruction regarding the prevention and care of athletic injuries and follow district and athletic department safety procedures.
  • Monitor and promote compliance with applicable eligibility requirements, physical examinations, athletic forms, insurance requirements, waivers, and other participation requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate records, statistics, awards, and other program documentation.
  • Monitor student-athlete behavior and enforce applicable district policies, athletic department expectations, and the Co-Curricular Code of Conduct.
  • Promote sportsmanship, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and respect consistent with district expectations and applicable OHSAA requirements.
  • Coordinate the use, care, inventory, procurement, and distribution of team equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with the preparation and appropriate use of athletic facilities for practices and competitions.
  • Coordinate transportation, scheduling, and other logistical needs in collaboration with the Athletic Director.
  • Attend required rules meetings, coaches'' meetings, athletic department meetings, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Supervise assistant coaches, managers, statisticians, and other program personnel as appropriate.
  • Delegate responsibilities to assistant coaches and evaluate the effectiveness of the coaching staff at the conclusion of the season.
  • Communicate professionally and appropriately with student-athletes, families, coaches, teachers, administrators, officials, and community members.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and school personnel, as appropriate, to support student-athlete academic success.
  • Support the overall interscholastic athletic program and participate in district athletic events and activities as assigned.
  • Coordinate game and practice filming and use available video resources to support player and team development.
  • Assist with the athletic awards program and recognition of student-athletes.
  • Provide appropriate program information for school and district communications and public relations activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and comply with applicable federal and state privacy requirements and district policies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Principal.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of gymnastics, including fundamentals, skill development, training, conditioning, and competition.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, motivate, and develop student-athletes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive professional relationships with students, families, coaches, staff, administrators, officials, and community members.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students.
  • Knowledge of appropriate practices for the prevention and response to athletic injuries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches and members of the athletic department.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.
  • Ability to appropriately supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, meetings, and other program activities.
  • Ability to comply with district policies, OHSAA requirements, and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Valid driver''s license if required for assigned coaching-related transportation duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous gymnastics coaching experience.
  • Previous experience working with middle school or high school student-athletes.
  • Ohio teaching license or other appropriate Ohio educator credential.
  • Experience leading or supervising a coaching staff.

Required Certifications and Background Requirements

Prior to beginning coaching duties, the successful candidate must meet all applicable Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW), OHSAA, and Bowling Green City Schools requirements for coaches, including required pupil activity credentials/validation and required training.

The successful candidate must also maintain any required CPR/AED and first aid certification and complete all required district background checks and other pre-employment requirements before beginning service, as applicable.

All required credentials and certifications must remain current throughout the coaching assignment.

Working Conditions

The position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of coaching and supervising student-athletes, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working conditions may include:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and other physical activity associated with coaching and athletic supervision.
  • Participation in practices and competitions in gymnasium and athletic facility environments.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissue.
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather when required by assigned duties.
  • Occasional interaction with students exhibiting challenging or disruptive behavior.
  • Work outside the regular school day, including evenings, weekends, practices, competitions, tournaments, and other athletic activities.
