Head Track & Field Coach

The School District of North Fond du Lac is seeking an energetic, student-centered individual to serve as the Head Track & Field Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. The season will begin in March 2027 and conclude following WIAA tournament competition in June 2027. Practices are held after school, with competitions taking place throughout the week and on select weekends. The Head Coach is also expected to oversee off-season program development and athlete engagement opportunities.

Experience Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to organize, supervise, and lead a successful athletic program.
  • Previous coaching experience preferred, with track and field coaching experience strongly desired.
  • Strong knowledge of track and field events, training principles, athlete development, and competition management.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with high school-aged students while modeling positive character, leadership, and responsible behavior.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth.

Special Considerations

  • Variable schedule to accommodate practices, meets, meetings, and program responsibilities.
  • Availability for evening competitions, conference meets, invitationals, and WIAA tournament competition.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple event areas and coaching staff members.

Position Summary

The Head Track & Field Coach is responsible for directing, supporting, and fully implementing the high school track and field program through an educationally based philosophy that promotes athletic excellence, character development, sportsmanship, and student growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership

  • Understands and implements all District, Conference, WIAA, and Athletic Department policies and procedures.
  • Knows, interprets, and consistently implements all applicable track and field rules and regulations.
  • Develops and communicates a clear vision for the district''s track and field program and works collaboratively to achieve program goals.
  • Recruits, supervises, and supports assistant coaches.
  • Establishes the philosophy, skills, techniques, and expectations to be taught throughout the program.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the track and field program, including event coaching assignments and meet preparation.
  • Attends all head coaches meetings and athletic department functions as required.
  • Completes all required district trainings and maintains necessary certifications.

Student-Athlete Development

  • Directs and supervises student-athletes during practices, competitions, team activities, and travel.
  • Promotes respect for teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and spectators.
  • Supports both individual athlete development and overall team success.
  • Develops training plans that promote growth, performance, and injury prevention.
  • Communicates eligibility requirements, training expectations, team rules, and program standards.
  • Provides appropriate supervision, guidance, and mentorship to all participants.
  • Maintains discipline and addresses concerns in a fair, positive, and consistent manner.
  • Develops and supervises procedures related to athlete safety, injury prevention, and emergency response.

Operations and Meet Management

  • Assists with preparation and coordination of practices, home meets, and away competitions.
  • Adheres to facility schedules and coordinates facility usage with district personnel.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation related to athlete eligibility, physical examinations, participation requirements, and meet entries.
  • Oversees the care, maintenance, inventory, distribution, and collection of program equipment.
  • Coordinates transportation, meet registrations, and event entries as required.
  • Monitors facilities before, during, and after practices and competitions.
  • Ensures facilities are clean, secure, and properly maintained following use.

Program Development and Community Relations

  • Promotes participation and growth within the track and field program.
  • Assists with fundraising efforts to support program needs beyond the annual budget.
  • Collaborates with youth, middle school, and high school coaches to strengthen the overall program.
  • Maintains positive relationships with athletes, parents, booster club members, officials, volunteers, media representatives, and community members.
  • Serves as a positive role model within the school and community.
  • Promotes sportsmanship, integrity, and the values of North Fond du Lac Athletics.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Directs student managers, volunteers, and other program support personnel.
  • Instills respect for school property and equipment.
  • Assists with hosting conference, invitational, and WIAA events as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Activities Director or administration.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, bending, sitting, hearing, speaking, and visual observation are required. The position may require demonstrating athletic skills, lifting and moving equipment, setting up competition areas, and supervising activities in various weather conditions.
