About the Job

Smokeball is hiring a senior, highly commercial leader to own the revenue line for our Personal Injury (PI) practice area in the US. This is a head-of-revenue role for PI: you own the number, the commercial strategy behind it, and the outcomes that drive both revenue and adoption of Smokeball’s PI app across our client base and the wider PI market.

You will combine strategic partnerships, sales, and market expansion at the leadership level: sourcing and landing new partners, representing Smokeball at PI trade shows and industry events, and opening new commercial channels. You will direct a small growth pod (starting with the PI Growth) and work heavily across Client Success, Marketing, and Sales to drive PI outcomes without owning those teams directly. You will be highly supported by the Legal Product team and Smokeball’s global go-to-market (GTM) team, who partner closely with you on product direction, positioning, enablement, and market execution.

This is a player-coach role for someone who is commercially driven, thrives in ambiguity and constant reprioritization, and moves fast from strategy to measurable results.

This is a hybrid role based in our office in Chicago, IL. All Chicagoland employees are required to be in the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the PI vertical revenue target for the US and the commercial strategy to hit it across new business, expansion, and renewal influence

• Drive adoption of Smokeball’s PI app as a core revenue and retention lever, connecting product usage to a measurable revenue line

• Translate PI market dynamics and firm economics into a focused commercial plan: decide where to play and how to win

• Own PI monetization opportunities, pricing input, and packaging in partnership with Product and Finance

• Identify, land, and grow partnerships that expand Smokeball’s PI reach: referral networks, bar associations, PI-specific vendors, integrations, and co-marketing relationships

• Work heavily across Sales, Client Success, Product, and Marketing to drive PI outcomes without direct ownership of those teams

• Align GTM motions, enablement, pipeline, campaigns, and retention plays behind shared PI targets

• Direct the growth pod as a hands-on player-coach, starting with the PI Growth Manager

• Set commercial priorities, connect the pod’s execution to revenue and adoption outcomes, remove blockers, and hold accountability for results

• Maintain a tight operating rhythm across the pod and its dotted-line partners in Product and Client Success

Required Skills & Competencies

• Personal Injury market fluency. Understands PI firm workflows, economics, and buying behavior well enough to shape commercial strategy.

• Commercial leadership & revenue ownership. Has owned a revenue line and hit it; thinks in outcomes (pipeline, expansion, adoption, renewal influence), not just activity

• Partnerships & business development. Sources, negotiates, and lands partners and channels; credible and comfortable at trade shows and industry events

• Cross-functional influence without authority. Drives outcomes across Sales, CS, and Marketing through business cases, shared goals, and relationships

• Player-coach leadership in ambiguity. Sets direction and executes; reprioritizes fast without losing the thread; builds cohesion across dotted-line reporting

• Metrics & storytelling with data. Connects commercial work to revenue and communicates status and impact clearly to executives

• AI fluency & rapid experimentation. Comfortable using company-approved AI tools to move fast and raise the team’s velocity

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required

• 10+ years of professional experience, including commercial / revenue leadership

• Proven track record owning and hitting a revenue line (new business, expansion, or usage/transactional models).

• 4+ years in legal tech OR 5+ years working closely with or selling to small-to-medium law firms, with strong familiarity with the operational and software needs of a PI practice

• Experience building and managing partnerships and business development

• Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities

Work Environment / Location

• Regular travel expected for trade shows, conferences, partner meetings, and industry events.

• Occasional after-hours meetings due to time-zone constraints across teams and partners.

Compensation Band

OTE: $300,000
