We're looking for a Head of Underwriting Platform Development.

Reporting to the CEO, the Head of Underwriting Platform Development serves as the underwriting business lead for supporting the design, buildout, and implementation of Hamilton Select's digital underwriting platform. The role will also lead digital distribution, ensuring scalable, data-driven, broker-centric workflows that improve underwriter productivity, risk selection, and multi-channel distribution.

This role requires deep insurance expertise, enterprise mindset, and the ability to drive outcomes through cross-functional teams in an agile environment.

This role is a hybrid working position ideally based in the greater New York/New Jersey area or Richmond, VA. We will consider a remote US location for appropriately qualified candidates.

What you will do

Serve as the underwriting subject matter expert and primary business owner for Hamilton Select's underwriting platform, partnering with Underwriting, Operations and Technology on architecture, product prioritization, and delivery. Translate underwriting, operations and distribution business needs into platform capabilities and digital solutions. Define and continuously refine underwriting workflows, rules, and data requirements across the business recognizing any planning for necessary differences in requirements between brokerage and binding authority business across all aspects of functionality and development. In conjunction with Human Resources, Communications, Underwriting Management, and Technology, support a comprehensive Change Management strategy to drive adoption across underwriting, distribution, and operations. Represent platform and digital distribution capabilities in senior leadership forums, steering committees, board-level reporting, and external partner discussions. Partner with Underwriting Management, Distribution and Technology to execute Hamilton Select's Digital Distribution strategy, including prioritization of key brokers, portals, and exchange connectivity.

Functional Scope In partnership with Technology;

Submission Intake, Clearance & Triage

Define workflows for submission intake, appetite validation, clearance, and prioritization across brokerage and binding channels Ensure effective use of automation and AI for data extraction, appetite scoring, and routing

Digital Product Definition (Rating, Rules, Forms)

Own the establishment of business definition of rating logic, underwriting rules, referral triggers, and required forms

Workflow Design: Rating, Quoting, Binding & Issuance

Partner with Technology, Underwriting Management, and Operations to implement workflows supporting:

Complex underwriting-driven, brokerage quoting Rules-based, controlled binding authority execution

API & Digital Connectivity

Define requirements for real-time submission, appetite, and quoting APIs Support integration with broker systems, exchanges, and digital hubs

Audit, Governance & Compliance

Define requirements for audit trails, decision tracking, and regulatory compliance Ensure adherence to underwriting authority and binder limitations

Data, CRM & External Integrations

Partner with Technology, Underwriting Management, and Operations to integrate underwriting workflows with:

Broker relationship data Third-party data providers Performance and portfolio analytics

What we're looking for in the role

Required

Extensive experience in insurance, with significant exposure to underwriting operations, underwriting technology, or insurance platform product management.

Experience in a leadership role managing cross-functional teams delivering technology platforms or digital products in a complex enterprise environment.

Demonstrated expertise in P&C, specialty, or commercial insurance underwriting processes, systems, and workflows.

Proven track record designing and scaling digital distribution capabilities, including agent/broker portals, API integrations, or direct digital channels.

Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.

Preferred

Experience with policy administration systems, rating platforms, or submission management technologies

Familiarity with AI/ML applications in underwriting, such as predictive risk models, automated triage, or intelligent document processing.

Relevant professional designations (e.g., CPCU, AU, CIP).

Experience in a matrixed or distributed organization with global or multi-regional operations.

Demonstrated experience managing Wholesale Broker partnerships or vendor ecosystems.
