The Department of Athletics at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applicants for a full-time, exempt position with benefits.

Salary: $70,000 - $90,000

Benefits: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, as a University System of Maryland institution and

a Maryland State agency, provides a comprehensive benefits package to all regular faculty and

Responsibilities:

  • Direct assigned Assistant Coaches in the overall planning and execution of

the intercollegiate softball program.

  • Recruit quality prospective student-athletes and ensure timely submission

of academic records for admissions.

  • Monitor academic progress and status of team members, implementing

action plans through appropriate staff when needed.

  • Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student athletes to

support the image and reputation of the athletics program.

  • Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NCAA and

Conference Regulations.

  • Coach team members individually and in groups and demonstrate game

techniques.

  • Develop and implement game strategy and position assignments.
  • Promote the athletic program and specific sport through community

events, public speaking, fundraising, donor engagement and marketing.

  • Ensure adherence to all Associate, Conference, and University rules by

athletes and supporting staff.

  • Take charge of and maintain field surface and facilities in partnership with

university grounds and maintenance staff.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Previous playing or coaching experience preferably at the collegiate level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills including writing

skills.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with students, faculty,

administration, alumni, and the public.

  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I recruiting guidelines.

Physical Demands:

  • May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at

desk.

  • May require lifting.
  • Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and

internally.

  • Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.
