HEAD START EDUCATION/DISABILITY MANAGER

11-Month Position

General Statement of Job

Alexander County Schools is seeking a qualified and dedicated Education/Disability Manager to join our Head Start team. This leadership position oversees the implementation of high-quality educational programming, disability services, and curriculum compliance while supporting classroom staff, children, and families.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree from an accredited college or university required.

Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Birth-Kindergarten Education, or a related field preferred.

  • Equivalent coursework and experience teaching preschool-aged children may be considered.

  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and personnel management skills preferred.

Essential duties and responsibilities

The Education/Disability Manager is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational services that promote the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children enrolled in Alexander County Head Start.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and Alexander County Schools policies.

  • Oversee curriculum implementation and classroom instructional practices.

Provide coaching, professional development, and educational resources to teaching staff.

  • Coordinate disability services and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Monitor classroom quality and educational outcomes.

  • Collaborate with families, staff, Policy Council, and community partners.

  • Maintain compliance with Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) requirements.

  • Assist with program planning, annual needs assessments, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

  • Support classroom staff through coaching, observation, and ongoing technical assistance.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Start Director.

Essential knowledge and abilities

  • Frequent significant decisions to assure developmental progress of children.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise preschool children and ensure a safe learning environment includes the ability to monitor and respond to events always going on in the classroom, outdoor play areas, and other areas in the school setting. This includes the physical ability to move quickly to respond to children who are highly active and may need redirection to ensure their safety or the safety of others in the environment.
  • Ability to respond appropriately (both mentally and physically) to an emergency or a crisis. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Interact with children inside and outside in gross motor activities.
  • Stand for extended periods of time to monitor children in the classroom and on the playground.
  • Participate in floor activities with children.
  • Walk up and down stairs. Sweep, mop, vacuum floors, and clean bathrooms daily.
