Floyd County Head Start is looking to add a loving and supportive teacher assistant to our Head Start program. Our Head Start teachers and assistants work together as a team to engage their preschool students ages 3-5 years old in fun play-based learning to achieve School Readiness Goals.
Our Teacher Assistants also train to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to drive buses to transport program children to and from the school building.
Specific Responsibilities and Duties
• Complete daily AM and PM bus routes to transport children. CDL training provided and pay increases after completed. • Engage and challenge children through a variety of learning experiences. • Collaborate with Lead Teacher to develop and implement goals and objectives. • Provide input to planning and implementing activities. • Use childrens interests to drive the curriculum. • Implement Active Supervision to establish a safe and healthy environment to support the development of each child. • Implement effective classroom management strategies. • Participate in assessing children to show measurable progress in all developmental domains. • Assist in administering the appropriate developmental screens. • Keep timely documentation and record keeping as required by all applicable regulations. • Participate in 2 home visits with Lead Teacher and 2 family teacher conferences per school year. • Utilize agency software to input data and generate reports used for tracking and follow-up. • Collaborate with all departments to maximize resources.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
High School diploma or GED required. CDA or Associates degree preferred. Previous childcare or early childhood education experience required. CDA must be obtained within two years of employment. Agency pays for classes and testing and pay increases upon completion.
Have a valid CDL or willingness to obtain one within 90 working days of employment and maintain Department of Transportation legal status requirements to transport children. Agency pays for training and additional testing.
Must be physically and emotionally able to work with young children. Ability to communicate with children, parents, and other professionals. Ability to safely and physically transport a child 0-5 years old, with vision and hearing adequate to supervise children in the classroom area and on the playground, and be at the childs eye level.
Computer skills sufficient to use online programs to enter data and to guide children in the use of classroom technology. Willingness to complete pre-employment background check, including federal fingerprints, physical drug test, and TB test as required by all applicable regulations.
Schedule
Monday-Thursday: 7AM-4PM Must work 36 hours but are paid for 40. Other 4 hours can be utilized on Fridays for catch-up. Some Fridays are required 4 hours only throughout the school year for In-Service and Training times. All dates are provided up front.
43 weeks per year. Off for Fall Break (October), Winter Break (December), Jan Spring Break (March), and Summer Break (June-Mid-July).
